Keynote

For the mental effects of onanism and sexual excesses. Very sensitive to slight mental impressions; least action or harmless words offend (Ign.). Great indignation about things done by others or by himself; grieves about consequences. Apathetic, indifferent, low-spirited, weak memory from sexual abuses (Anac., Aur., Nat., Phos. ac.). Ailments from pride, envy or chagrin. Ill-humored children cry for things which, after receiving, they petulantly push or throw away (Kreos.) [Cina, Bry.]. Teeth turn black, show dark streaks through them; cannot be kept clean; crumble; decay on edges (at the roots, Mez., Thuja); scorbutic cachexia. Craving for tobacco. Extreme hunger even when stomach is full of food. Sensation as if stomach and abdomen were hanging down relaxed (Agar., Ipec., Tab.). Colic: after lithotomy or ovariotomy; attending abdominal section (Bis., Hep.). Urging to urinate, has to sit at urinal for hours; in young married women; after coition; after difficult labor (Op.); burning in urethra when not urinating; urging and pain after urinating in prostatic troubles of old men; prolapse of bladder. Painful sensitiveness of sexual organs, vulva so sensitive can scarcely wear a napkin (Plat.). Onanism; persistently dwelling on sexual subjects; constantly thinking of sexual pleasures. Spermatorrhoea: with sunken features; guilty, abashed look; emission followed by headache, weakness; prostration and relaxation or atrophy of sexual organs. Cough: only in the daytime, or only after dinner, worse after eating meat; after vexation or indignation; excited by cleaning the teeth. Croupy cough in winter alternating with sciatica in summer; cough excited by tobacco smoke (Spong.). Backache, < at night in bed, and in the morning before rising. Arthritic nodosities of joints, especially of the fingers (Caul., Colch., Lyc.); inflammation of phalages with sweating and suppuration. Sleepy all day, awake all night; body aches all over. In fever; ravenous hunger for days before attack. Eczema: yellow, acrid moisture oozes from under crusts; now vesicles form from contact with exudation; by scratching one place itching ceases, but appears in another. Fig-warts: dry, pediculated, cauliflower-like; after abuse of mercury (Nit. ac., Sab., Thuja).

Relations

Compare: Caust., Col., Ign., Lyc., Puls., Col. and Staph. act well after each other; Caust., Col., Staph., follow well in order names.

Aggravation

Mental

Teeth

Toothache so sensitive that one can't bear to move the tongue; black streaks running through the teeth. Affections of teeth on right side chiefly; decayed teeth very often are excessively tender on being filled--can't bear the operation.

Skin

Scald-head with yellow scab, smells badly, itches very much, etc. Exanthema on the cheeks, face, or head, particularly if it is yellow; with a creeping itching; ulcers, with gnawing pains. Incised wounds, with great pain.

Sensations

Flatulent colic, where the flatus is incarcerated; gnawing pains; darting pains; sensation of trembling in the inner parts.

Mind

Head

I quote all these symptoms in order to impress the reader with the value of Staphisagria as a mind remedy. Chamomilla is often used when Staphisagria would be better, especially for children, and Nux vomica is sometimes used for adults the same way.

Phosphoric acid is sometimes used for the results of onanism when Staphisagria would do better. You will also notice that this remedy may be indicated for the effects of anger instead of Chamomilla or Colocynth. Here are Chamomilla, Nux vomica Cina, Colocynth and Staphisagria standing very close to each other for cross, ugly, irritable subjects, and there are few cases that one or the other will not fit. Then we have Phosphoric acid, Natrum muriaticum, Anacardium, Aurum and Staphisagria for the apathetic or hypochondriacal.

Staphisagria has a sensation as if the stomach were hanging down relaxed. Ipecac and Tabacum, have the same sensation.

Sometimes it is described as a sinking sensation. It also has the same sensation in the abdomen; feels as though it would drop, wants to support it with the hands. Colic, which might be styled "habitual colic," in scrawny, ugly, pot-bellied children, and especially if they suffer much with their teeth, which turn black, with tender, spongy gums, which are sensitive and painful.

Now when we add dysentery to the foregoing, we see that Staphisagria acts along the whole intestinal tract. Staphisagria is one of the remedies which has a marked characteristic aggravation after the least food or drink. This remedy has a very peculiar symptom, which appeared in the provings, and which I have verified, viz., "burning in the urethra when not urinating." While urinating the burning ceased. We have plenty of remedies for burning before, during and after urination, but Staphisagria is the only one having this burning all the time between the acts of urinating. In addition to being one of the best remedies for onanism, it is one of the best for affections of the prostrate gland in old men, with frequent urination and dribbling of urine afterwards. A very common and troublesome symptom found in connection with troubles of the genital organs, both male and female, is backache, which is very peculiar, in that it is always worse at night in bed and in the morning before rising. It is a very efficacious remedy here. Staphisagria is a good skin remedy. It cures both dry and moist eruptions. The eczema of Staphisagria oozes an acrid moisture from under the scabs, and new vesicles form from the contact of the exudation. They generally itch very severely, and one peculiarity is, that when the itching is relieved by scratching in one place it immediately appears in another. The eczema is often on the head, on the sides around the ears, but the most marked action is in the eyelids. Herring's card expresses it thus: "Styes, nodosities, chalazæ on eyelids, one after another, sometimes ulcerating." There is only one remedy that can compare with this one in chronic blepharitis, and that is Graphites (see also Borax). It has some remarkable cures of cross, puny, sickly children, having the teeth and eyelid symptoms. Not only were the local troubles remedied, but the patient was cured every way.

I think of but two other uses of Staphisagria, which I wish to mention. First, its use in the cure of condylomata, figwarts, or cauliflower-like excrescences. In one case, with the 200th of this remedy, I removed an excrescence on the perinæum of a lady in which the growth was an inch long and the appearance was exactly in appearance like cauliflower. It rapidly disappeared under the action of this remedy and never returned. Second, its use for Incised wounds. It is the best remedy here, where there is a clean cut as after surgical operations. It is to such wounds what Calendula is to lacerations, Arnica, Hamamelis, Ledum and Sulph. acid for bruises, Rhus tox., Calcarea ostrearum and Nux vomica for strains; Calcarea phosphorica and Symphytum for fractures.

Mind and Disposition

Anger and indignation, with pushing or throwing away of what one holds in his hand. Justifiable ill-humor over what has happened or has been done by oneself ; weeping and dejected over the supposed ill consequences of it. Continuous grief and anxiety about the future. Hypochondria and Hysteria after unmerited insults (or sexual excesses), with complaints of flatulence. Weakness of memory. Hypochondriacal indifference (after onanism).

Head

Dull feeling of the head, with inability to perform any mental labor. Pressing in the forehead, as from a very heavy lump which will not be shaken off ; worse in the morning, from motion and from stooping ; better when at rest, and when leaning the head against something. Stupefying, pressing headache, as if the brain were compressed. Sensation as if the head would burst, especially in the forehead and when stooping. Humid, scalding-itching fetid eruption on the back part of the head, the sides of the head, and behind the ears ; when scratching, the itching changes the place, but makes it more humid. Painful sensitiveness of the scalp ; the skin peels off with itching and biting ; worse in the evening and from getting warm. The hair falls off, mostly on the back part of the head and around the ears, with humid, fetid eruption, or dandruff on the scalp. Pressing-stinging and tearing pains in the bones and in the periosteum on the cranium ; swelling up and suppuration of the bones (caries), with putrid smelling perspiration day and night ; worse from motion and contact. Burning-stinging on the external head, mostly on the left temple ; worse from the heat of the bed, when lying on it, and at 3 P.M.

Eyes

Dryness of the eyeballs and lids. Inflammation of the edges of the eyelids, with agglutination at night. Styes. Nodosities in the eyelids. Inflammation of the eyes, with pimples around them.

Ears

Hardness of hearing with swelling of the tonsils, especially after the abuse of Mercury.

Nose

Ulceration of the nostrils with scabs deep in the nose. Violent coryza, one nostril is stuffed up, with much sneezing and lachrymation.

Face

Countenance sunken, nose peaked, eyes sunken and blue margins around them. Inflammation of the bones of the face. Brown and blue color of face when getting angry. Scurfy lips with burning pains. Easy dislocation of the articulation of the jaw. Painfulness of the submaxillary glands, with (or without) swelling.

Mouth and Throat

Teeth become black and exfoliate. The teeth are very sensitive to the touch and to cold drinks, but not when biting on them. White, painful swelling and ulceration of the gums. Excrescences and nodosities on the gums. Painful excrescence on the inside of the cheek. Stomacace : mouth and tongue full of blisters. Throat dry and rough, with soreness when talking and swallowing. Feeble voice from weakness of the vocal organs, after anger. Nasal voice from stoppage of the posterior nares. While talking she swallows continually. Swelling of the tonsils, also after the misuse of Mercury.

Stomach and Abdomen

Ravenous hunger even when the stomach is full. Longing only for thin, fluid food (soup). Great desire for brandy and tobacco. All the food tastes bitter. Bitter eructations after sour food. Water-brash. Spasmodic cutting in the abdomen after eating and drinking. Sensation of weakness in the abdomen as if it should vanish. Swollen abdomen (in children). Colic with urging to urinate. Painful swelling of the inguinal glands. Flatulence smelling like rotten eggs.

Stool and Anus

Constipation with urging to go to stool. Retarded but soft feces. Evacuations with much flatulence. Dysenteric stools ; with pressing and cutting in the abdomen before, during, and after stool.

Urinary Organs

Frequent urging to urinate, with scanty discharge in a thin stream, or discharge of dark urine by drops. Profuse discharge of watery, pale urine with much urging. During and after micturition burning in the urethra, after micturition urging, as if the bladder were not emptied.

Sexual Organs

Men. On and behind the corona glandis soft, humid excrescences. (Sycosis). Inflammation of the testicles (and ovaries) with burning, stinging, and pressing-drawing. Sexual instinct excited. Women. Painful sensitiveness of the sexual organs, especially when sitting.

Respiratory Organs

Sensation of constriction and pressure in the throat-pit after anger, aggravated when swallowing. Rawness in the larynx from talking. Soreness and rawness in the chest, especially when coughing. Dyspnœa with constriction and restlessness in the chest. Hoarseness with much tenacious mucus in the larynx and chest. Violent spasmodic cough with expectoration of yellow, tough, purulent mucus at night. Palpitation of the heart from the least exertion, from mental exertion, from hearing music, and after the siesta.

Back and Neck

Pain in the small of the back as after overlifting, worse at rest at night and in the morning, and when rising from a seat. Violent stitches upwards in the back. Suppurating swelling in the psoas muscle. Painful swelling of the glands of the neck and under the aims.

Extremities

Upper. Herpes with scabs on the elbows. Herpes on the hands. Numbness in the tips of the fingers. Arthritic nodosities on the fingers. Lower. Pulsating pain in the hip-joint as from beginning suppuration. Painful weakness of the legs, especially the knees. Stitches in the knees and knee-joints.

Generalities

Paralysis on one side from anger. Twitches at night. Stiffness and sensation of fatigue in all the joints in the morning. The muscles are painful to the touch, and the joints on motion. Bad effects from the abuse of Mercury.

Sleep

Violent yawning and stretching, bringing the tears to the eyes. Goes to sleep late, from crowding of ideas or because the herpes and ulcers burn and itch, or the calves pain violently.

Fever

Pulse very fast but small and trembling. Chilliness and coldness predominate. Violent chill in the evening with heat in the face. Chilliness 8 P.M. ; better when exercising in the open air. Chill ascending from the back over the head. Chill running down the back. External heat with thirst after midnight, followed by chill towards morning. Burning heat at night, especially on the hands and feet, with desire to uncover oneself. Profuse perspiration and disposed to perspire. Night-sweats smelling like rotten eggs. Cold perspiration on the forehead and on the feet. Tertian fever with symptoms of scurvy, such as putrid taste in the mouth, bleeding gums, want of appetite, constipation. The intermittent fever consists almost solely of a chilliness. Before and after the paroxysms of intermittent fever, ravenous hunger.

Skin

Painful swelling of the glands. Swelling and suppuration of the bones and of the periosteum. Itching herpes, burning after scratching. Dry herpes with scabs on the joints. Chronic herpes with nightly twitching. The skin is hard to heal. Mechanical injuries from sharp-cutting instruments. Arthritic nodosities on the joints.

Conditions

Aggravation from anger, grief, sorrow, mortification caused by offences ; from loss of fluids ; from masturbation ; from sexual excesses ; from touching the affected parts ; from tobacco ; from the abuse of Mercury. Amelioration after breakfast.

Characteristics

The seed of Stavesacre was known to Dioscorides as an agent for producing vomiting and salivation, and for the cure of toothache; "the origin of which application," says Hahnemann ( M. M. P .), "was evidently domestic practice. J. H. Schultze, when suffering from toothache, took some of the seed in his mouth, but it gave him such a violent exacerbation that he thought he should go mad. . . . As an, exterminator of vermin this seed was called by the Greeks Øθ ειρσκσκκον, and as such it still enters into the composition of an officinal ointment ( unguentum pediculosum )." This last is the only use of Staph . now known to orthodox medicine (Brunton). Teste (who groups Staph . with Caust .) remarks that Staph ., which shares this property with Coccul ., is, like Coccul ., used in some countries for the purpose of stupefying fish. Again, Teste found Staph . (he gave it in 6th dil.), like Coccul ., a remedy for seasickness. To be successful, Staph . had to be taken at the moment when dizziness and nausea commenced, before vomiting set in; and it always helped "nervous persons, not over fat, and disposed to sadness." Staph . produced in Teste himself these symptoms: "Long-lasting vertigo, accompanied by continued nausea as in sea-sickness," and this: "Vertigo, which ceases on rapidly turning round on one's heel." This corresponds with one of Hahnemann's symptoms: "Wheeling vertigo, especially while sitting, > by walking about (in a circle)." It is noteworthy that Staph . and Coccul . are both head-remedies and both effective against head lice. Both also affect the genitals, Staph . more especially, and both are remedies for crab lice. An application of a dilution of the tincture of the strength of one part to four of water will destroy the parasites, though the state which favours their presence needs internal treatment (probably with a dilution of the same remedy) at the same time. In Teste's experience, Staph . was no less effective in the nausea of pregnancy than in the nausea of sea-sickness. Tabac . is another remedy for sickness, and Teste cured with Staph . effects of tobacco smoking (excoriated tongue; gastralgia); and he also cured with it the habit of "swallowing the tobacco smoke." The use of Staph . in the sickness of pregnancy arises out of its power over the genital functions. It produces both physical and moral sexual disturbances, provokes excesses and irregular sexual appetites, a tendency to masturbation, and a physical state corresponding to the effects of that habit. It is one, of Gallavardin's chief remedies ( Passion Génitale ) for removing the habit of masturbation in children, and for removing improper appetites in adults. Staph . is one of the remedies which has " < from coition" (in men), dyspnœa occurring during or after the act; dyspnœa and prostration also follow an emission. In women coition is painful because the external parts are excessively sensitive. This property (which is also allied to the vulnerary power of Staph .) makes Staph . a remedy of extreme value to women in the early days of married life. Some women suffer very acutely (in mind as well as body) during and for some time after the first coitus. I have seen Staph . 30 give unspeakable relief in such cases. "Constant urging to urinate in young married women" is the characteristic. ─ Another urinary peculiarity is burning in the urethra when not urinating. Urinary difficulties after severe labours. Prolapse of bladder. I have seen cystocele relieved by Staph . Sensitiveness; stinging, stitching, shooting pains < by touch; itching ─ are the chief notes of Staph , in affections of the genital organs of both sexes. It has cured prostatitis in the man, with pain running from anus along urethra; inflamed testicles with shooting and drawing in the cords; stitching towards groin and testicles. In one female prover Staph . brought on the menses a year after they had ceased, at the new moon. The symptom did not recur the following month, which led Hahnemann to conclude that this "was only the primary action of the drug." Staph . is not only a remedy for ovarian and other affections, it also meets the conditions following operations on ovaries. Effects of "wounds made by clean-cutting instruments" is the keynote. P. C. Majumdar ( Ind. H. Rev ., v. 134) gives two cases in which loss of memory following masturbation and seminal emissions was cured with Staph . 30: ( 1 ) A student, naturally robust and intelligent, lost his memory when he contracted the habit of masturbation. His symptoms were: Vacant countenance; no aptitude or inclination for mental work; despair of the future; great languor and weakness; occasional nocturnal emission; constipation. When he read anything he forgot it the next moment. Heaviness, headache, and vertigo after the least mental exertion. Staph . 30 was given morning and evening. Improvement began at once and the cure was complete in a month. ( 2 ) Another student had constant involuntary emissions, weak memory, languor; headache every morning on rising; no appetite; constipation. Staph . 30, once a day, cured. "Hypochondriasis, apathy; weak memory; caused by sexual excesses or constantly dwelling on sexual subjects," is how the symptom is given. But the mental state of Staph . need not necessarily have a sexual origin. Staph . is a remedy for anger and for the effects of anger, especially if the indignation cannot have its natural expression . "Was insulted; being too dignified to fight, swallowed his wrath, and went home sick, trembling and exhausted." The mental state of Staph ., like its physical, shows great sensitiveness to the least impression, "the least word that seems wrong, hurts her very much." The touchiness may take the form of sudden, violent outbreaks provoked by mere trivial causes. I have known Staph , 30 remedy this state when the impulse to throw things at persons who had caused a trifling or imaginary irritation, had almost passed into a mania. This irritability may be manifested in sensitiveness to criticism. Irritated by trifles. Want of self-control. Fear: afraid of his shadow. Among the consequences of anger which are met by Staph . is colic: "Colic of screaming, ugly, pot-bellied children, especially if they suffer much from their teeth, which turn black, with tender, spongy gums, sensitive and painful." The irritability of Staph . is shown in the intestinal tract in " < from least food or drink." This applies to vomiting, colic, or dysentery. When colic follows operations on the ovaries or intestines, Staph . is as useful as in colic from anger. The action of Staph . on the teeth is only one of many points in which it touches Merc ., and which makes it one of the best antidotes to Merc . The characteristic of Staph . is: "Teeth turn black, and have dark streaks through them; cannot be kept clean; crumble; decay on edges ; scorbutic cachexia." The toothache of Staph . occurs during the menses; affects sound as well as decayed teeth; < from touch of food or drink; but not from biting or chewing; is < drawing cold air into mouth; < from cold drinks and after eating. Staph . has the "sinking" sensation to an extreme degree. The stomach and abdomen feel as if hanging down relaxed. There is extreme hunger even when the stomach is full. There is ravenous hunger for days before an attack of fever; craving for tobacco; and a cough excited by tobacco smoke is an indication for it. "Inability to perspire" is one of the notes of Staph .; as also is sweat smelling of rotten eggs. Bibby (quoted A. H ., xxiii. 405) has used with much success Staph. Ø (three drops in two ounces of water; a teaspoonful every two hours) in cases of night-sweat "in patients bordering on consumption." Eruptions, like the sweat, when moist are foul-smelling. There are dry, scaly eruptions over the ends of bones. Pressing, stinging, tearing pains in periosteum. Exostoses and gouty nodes on fingers and toes. Sycotic and syphilitic condylomata. Seed warts. The ulcers of Staph . are generally very painful and sensitive. Peculiar Sensations are: As if legs would go under him. As if stupefied. As of a round ball in forehead. As if head would burst. As if brain were compressed. As if bones would be pressed out. Brain, as if torn to pieces. As if occiput hollow. As if back of brain were made of wood and couldn't think. As if occiput compressed externally and internally. As if hard substance were pressing on skull. As if eyes were very dry. As if a hard substance were lying beneath left upper lid. As if wind blew into ears. As if cheek swollen. As if glands beneath chin were swollen. As if teeth were hollow. As if stomach were hanging down. As of a heavy weight lying on stomach. As if abdomen would drop. As if bladder were not yet empty. Testicle feels as if compressed. As if something were loose in pit of stomach. As if chest were bruised. As if small of back were broken to pieces. As if a hard skin were drawn over tips of fingers of left hand. As if toes would be drawn down. Whole body as if bruised. As if done up after much hard work. Compressive pains are marked with Staph . Sensation of squeezing between stones or in a vice, in intestines, testes, head. The symptoms are: < By touch. < By pressure (as of hat). But pressure > toothache. Motion < . Rest > ; (but < pain in back). Sitting < . Swallowing < pressure in throat-pit. Face

Face wan and sharp (countenance sunken, nose peaked), with eyes hollow, and surrounded by a blue circle. ─ Bashful look. ─ Bluish and brownish colour of face, when excited by passion. ─ Distressing pressive and throbbing pain in face, from teeth into eye. ─ Sharp, burning stitches in l. cheek, which provoke scratching. ─ Prosopalgia in an old lady; on touching lips with spoon or fork inexpressible pains shot from lips over face; fluid food had to be eaten with fingers, could take no solid food: mastication impossible. ─ Inflammation of bones of face, with burning shootings, or incisive drawings and pressive tearings. ─ Facial eruption, with itchings and shootings. ─ Lips scurfy, covered with ulcers and scabs, with burning pain. ─ (Neuralgia that affects l. upper lip, with shootings up side of face. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Neuralgia of Staph . is < by holding cold water in mouth (R. T. Teeth

Toothache, with swelling of cheeks and submaxillary glands. ─ Toothache, immediately after a meal, and after mastication, and also after cold drinks, and the introduction of cold air into mouth (but not when biting on them), < at night or in morning. ─ Tearings and pressive drawings in carious teeth, or in the roots of those which are sound (in open air), and also in gums. ─ Teeth sensitive to touch, esp. at night and in the morning. ─ (Front teeth get loose from alveolar periostitis going on to caries of jaw. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Gnawing pain in carious teeth. ─ Blackness, brittleness, and caries of teeth (which exfoliate). ─ Dentition: child very sensitive; teeth decay as soon as they are cut. ─ Toothache so sensitive that one can't bear to move the tongue (hard pressure frequently > the toothache); black streaks running through teeth. ─ Affections of teeth on r. side chiefly; decayed teeth very often excessively tender on being filled; can't bear the operation. ─ Painful sensitiveness, swelling, and easy bleeding of gums. ─ Painful nodosities and excrescences on the gums. ─ Tearing in gums of lower incisors, and their roots while eating. ─ Gums pale, white, ulcerated (spongy).

Mouth

Mouth and tongue covered with vesicles; stomacace. ─ Conditions of mouth and throat like scurvy and mercurial poisoning. ─ Painful excrescences on interior of cheek. ─ Ulcers in mouth. ─ Salivation. ─ Sanguineous saliva. ─ Constant accumulation of mucus in mouth. ─ Swelling of glands under tongue. ─ (Cysts in connection with salivary ducts. ─ R. Throat

Roughness (dryness) and scraping in throat, with feeling of excoriation, when swallowing and speaking. ─ Constant deglutition when speaking. ─ Dryness and shootings in palate and throat. ─ Sticking in throat on swallowing. ─ Tonsillitis, on swallowing a stitch runs up from throat into ear. ─ Swelling of tonsils (also after the misuse of Mercury ). ─ Painful drawing from hyoidal arch into throat, < touching side of neck. ─ Tonsillitis: both tonsils inflamed and swollen; l. sends stitches into ear on swallowing.

Appetite

Mawkish and watery taste, with normal taste of food. ─ Bitter taste of all food. ─ Sour taste of bread. ─ Appetite, with want of taste. ─ Voracity. ─ Bulimy, even after a meal, sometimes with waterbrash. ─ Child cries as soon as it eats. ─ After eating: cutting in abdomen; dysenteric stool; after meat, cough < . After drinking: cutting in abdomen; dysenteric stool. ─ Great desire for milk. ─ Tobacco has an acrid taste, and produces pyrosis. ─ Appetite for liquid food only (soup). ─ Craving for wine, brandy, and tobacco. ─ Thirstlessness.

Stomach

Eructations, generally empty or scraping. ─ Bitter risings after acid food. ─ Salt and bitter risings after eating meat. ─ Frequent hiccough. ─ Sobbing risings. ─ Waterbrash. ─ Nausea, with inclination to vomit every morning. ─ Frequent nausea. ─ Pressure at the stomach, as from a weight, in morning in bed. ─ Sensation as if stomach were hanging down relaxed. ─ Tension and pressure in stomach, < or > by eating, esp. bread. ─ Fulness, pressure, and shootings in scrobiculus. ─ Digging pain in stomach. ─ Anxious tension across hypochondria, in morning, with obstructed respiration.

Abdomen

Biliary colic, after domestic disturbance. ─ Tensive pressure in abdomen. ─ Hard pressure in r. side beneath umbilicus. ─ Pinching stitch in l. viscera. ─ Enlargement of the abdomen in children. ─ Drawing pains across abdomen. ─ Sensation of weakness and bearing down in abdomen, as if it would drop; wants to hold it up. ─ Gripings after all kinds of food and drink. ─ Colic with urging to urinate. ─ Spasmodic cuttings, with want to evacuate. ─ Frequent production and incarceration of flatus (smelling like rotten eggs). ─ Eruption of pimples as large as peas on whole abdomen and thighs, itch; when scratched off are moist and then burn. ─ Frequent discharge of hot or fetid flatus. ─ Painful swelling of inguinal glands. ─ Inguinal hernia.

Stool and Anus

Constipation. ─ Hard evacuations. ─ Frequent want to evacuate, with scanty evacuations, hard or soft. ─ Evacuation tardy, without being hard. ─ Difficult evacuation. ─ Obstinate constipation sets in two weeks after a single dose of Ø (R. T. C.). ─ Loose evacuations, preceded, accompanied, and followed by tenesmus and gripings. ─ Diarrhœa: < after drinking cold water; < after eating; in children. ─ Loose evacuations, with frequent expulsion of fetid wind. ─ Involuntary evacuation of liquid stools. ─ A thin stool passes unconsciously, as if flatus would pass. ─ Dysenteric stools; with pressing and cutting in abdomen before, during, and after-stool. ─ Smarting, sore pain in rectum for long after stool. ─ Itching in anus, while sitting. ─ Burning cuttings, pressure, and constriction in anus, during evacuations. ─ Hæmorrhoids, with enlarged prostate; intense pain in back and through whole pelvis. ─ Flatus: hot, smells like rotten eggs.

Urinary Organs

Itching, needle-like stitches in region of kidneys. ─ Pressure on bladder on waking from sleep. ─ Very frequent want to urinate, with emission drop by drop, or else of a slender stream of deep-coloured urine. ─ Excessively painful emission of urine. ─ Frequent (profuse) emission of clear watery urine (with much urging). ─ Frequent emission of red urine. ─ Constant micturition at night (produced. ─ R. T. C). ─ Bloody urine (produced. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Involuntary emission of urine when coughing. ─ After having urinated, a fresh want is felt, as if bladder were again full. ─ Burning sensation in urethra, esp. (after and) when urinating (with urging, as if the bladder were not emptied). ─ Constant urging in young married women.

Male Sexual Organs

Soft, moist excrescences, upon and behind the glans (sycosis). ─ Inflammation of testes, with burning shootings, or pressive drawing and tearings. ─ Pressing pain in l. testicle when walking; and after rubbing; < from touch. ─ Drawing, tearing, in r. testicle, as if compressed. ─ Drawing, burning, extending from r. inguinal ring, as if in spermatic cord, into r. testicle. ─ Chronic prostatitis in old men; pain extending from anus along urethra. ─ Sensation of worms crawling in back of scrotum. ─ A very marked increase of sexual desire, with frequent erections, esp. at night. ─ Voluptuous itching in the scrotum, which provokes emission. ─ Frequent pollutions, even during a siesta. ─ Effects of onanism; face sunken, abashed look; melancholy; nocturnal emissions; backache, legs weak; organs relaxed. ─ Seminal emissions followed by great chagrin and mortification; great prostration; dyspnœa. ─ Dyspnœa (towards the end of, and) after coition. ─ Discharge of prostatic fluid, during a hard evacuation.

Nymphomania, with extreme sensitiveness to mental and physical impressions; mind dwells too much on sexual subjects. ─ Painful sensitiveness of genital organs (esp. when sitting). ─ Prurigo senilis; or from pediculi. ─ Smarting and lancinating itching in vulva. ─ Sufferings after coitus in newly married women. ─ Inflammation of the ovaries with burning, stinging, and pressing-drawing. ─ Very sharp shooting pains in ovary, which is exceedingly sensitive to pressure; pains extending into crural region and thighs. ─ Flow of blood from genitals a long time after critical age. ─ Menses which had ceased for a year, reappeared with cutting colic and violent rumbling, at the new moon. ─ Spasmodic pains in vulva and vagina. ─ Menses: irregular, late, and profuse; sometimes wanting; first of pale blood, then dark and clotted; occasionally spasmodic uterine contractions. ─ Amenorrhœa from chagrin with indignation. ─ Granular vegetations of vagina.

Respiratory Organs

Hoarseness, with accumulation of mucus, which adheres to larynx and chest. ─ Sensation of pressure and contraction in pit of throat, after a fit of passion, < by deglutition. ─ Roughness, rawness, in larynx, after much speaking. ─ Dry, hollow cough, excited by a tickling in the larynx. ─ Violent cough, with expectoration of viscid mucus, in evening, after lying down. ─ Violent spasmodic cough, with (tough) purulent, yellow expectoration, esp. at night. ─ Croupy cough in winter, alternating with sciatica in summer; cough excited by tobacco smoke. ─ Expectoration of blood, when coughing. ─ Dyspnœa: with constriction; after seminal emissions; towards end of coition. ─ Pain (soreness and rawness) as from ulceration in the chest, during cough. ─ Dyspnœa with constriction and restlessness in chest.

Chest

Aching in chest, with heaviness in that part when sitting, mitigated by walking. ─ Contractive oppression, and great agitation in chest. ─ Itching stitches in costal cartilages. ─ Itching in sternum beneath pit of throat. ─ Lancinations in chest. ─ Pain in chest, as from excoriation and ulceration. ─ Cramp in diaphragm, after a fit of passion. ─ Miliary eruption on the chest, with redness and itching when heated. ─ Herpetic eruption on lower ribs, with burning itching.

Heart

Tremulous palpitation of heart; on least movement; after least intellectual fatigue; when listening to music; after a siesta. ─ Stitching pains in heart, or region of heart; stopping breathing. ─ Heart feels weak (produced. ─ R. T. C.).

Neck and Back

Drawing, rheumatic pressure, and tension in nape, with rigidity. ─ Stiff-neck, shoulders sore to lie on (produced. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Weakness of muscles in nape and neck. ─ Eruption of itching pimples on nape. ─ Painful swelling of glands of neck, of nape, and under axillæ. ─ Lancinations under axillæ. ─ Pain, as if broken in loins, or sensation as from overlifting, or straining the back, esp. during repose, and principally night and morning. ─ Pain in loins on rising from a seat, or on turning in bed. ─ Itching stitches in region of kidneys. ─ Violent (stitches) lancinations, which pass up back. ─ (Suppurating swelling in the psoas muscle.). ─ Lumbar abscess.

Limbs

Drawing, tearing, stitching pains in extremities. ─ Limbs feel beaten and painful, as after a long walk, below shoulders and below hip-joint.

Upper Limbs

Aching of shoulders. ─ Stitches in shoulder-joints, < on touch and motion. ─ Dislocation pains in r. shoulder-joint, only on moving. ─ Stiffness of shoulder-joint in morning. ─ Shoulders sore to lie on, and stiff-neck (produced. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Pains in bones of arms, during movement. ─ Pressive, paralytic, drawing, and lancinating tearings, in arms ( < on motion and touch), and forearms, shoulders, hands, and fingers. ─ Painful pressure in bone of arm. ─ Paralytic drawing in metacarpal joints, < from motion. ─ Hands become anæmic from cardiac inertia; gouty pains in little finger, index and thumb of l. hand at night, and loss of power, in l. thumb with pain in r. shoulder (produced. ─ R. T. C.). ─ Herpes on hands. ─ Herpes with scabs on elbows. ─ Numbness in ends of fingers. ─ Jerking tearing in fingers, esp. in the tips. ─ Burning itching in l. thumb. ─ Arthritic nodosities in joints of the fingers. ─ Osteitis of phalanges of fingers. ─ Cramps in fingers. ─ Convulsive movements of fingers.

Lower Limbs

Pulsating pain in hip-joint as from beginning suppuration. ─ Stiffness of coxo-femoral joint in morning. ─ Nates ache while sitting; pain extends to small of back, sacrum, and hip-joint. ─ Daily pains beginning at crest of ilium, r. side, extending backward and downward to thigh, < early morning, on rising or on sitting down, > standing and from warmth. ─ Exceedingly severe pain in r. leg, extending into genitals, esp. testes; attacks followed by great prostration. ─ Painful weakness of thighs and legs, esp. of knee-joint. ─ Pain as of a fracture in thighs when walking. ─ Itching tetters on thighs and legs. ─ Itching on inner side of thighs. ─ Drawing shootings in the knees and knee-joints ( < on motion). ─ Drawings, and pressive tearings in tibia, and bones of feet. ─ Boring stitches in r. tibia during rest. ─ Nocturnal cramps in calves and soles. ─ Tearing in muscles of legs when sitting and standing. ─ Stitches in r. calf. ─ Swelling of instep. ─ Swelling of metatarsal bones. ─ Burning itching in toes, as if they had been frostbitten. ─ R. toe inflames round nail and forms an abscess (produced. ─ R. Generalities

Tingling, as from insects, over whole body, esp. in morning. ─ Chronic miliary eruptions, sometimes with convulsive jerks at night. ─ Eruption of itching, oozing nodosities, with burning pain. ─ Scald-head with yellow scab, smells badly, itches very much, &c. ─ Exanthema on cheeks, face, or particularly if it is yellow; with a creeping itching. ─ Incised wounds, with great pain. ─ Herpetic eruptions, with itching in evening; and burning sensation after scratching them. ─ Arthritic nodosities on the joints. ─ Dry, crusty tetters on the joints. ─ Painful engorgement and induration of the glands. ─ Unhealthy skin, easily suppurating. ─ Frequent furunculi. ─ Ulcers, with tearing shootings (gnawing pains), or itching smarting. ─ Jerking and tearing round ulcers, esp. morning and evening. ─ Wens and encysted tumours burst after Staph . 200 (R. Sleep

Strong tendency to sleep all day. ─ Violent yawnings and stretchings, which cause tears to come into the eyes. ─ Sleep retarded by mental activity (crowding of ideas); or in consequence of an itching and burning sensation in the tetters and ulcers, or of violent pains in calves. ─ Sleepy all day; awake all night; body aches all over. ─ Jerking of limbs, when sleeping. ─ Disturbed sleep, with unquiet dreams, and frequent waking with a start. ─ Child wakes, pushes everything away and wants everybody to go away; restless at night as from frightful dreams; calls for mother often. ─ Lascivious dreams, with emissions.

Fever

Pulse very fast but small and trembling. ─ Frequent shivering and shuddering, also at night. ─ Fever in evening, manifesting itself only by chilliness. ─ Chilliness and coldness predominate. ─ Violent chill in evening with heat in face. ─ Chilliness 3 p.m.; > when exercising in open air. ─ Chill ascending from back over head. ─ Chill running down back. ─ Before and after the paroxysms of intermittent fever, ravenous hunger. ─ Tertian fever (with symptoms of scurvy, such as putrid taste), bitter taste, bleeding gums, anorexia, and constipation. ─ External burning heat, with ebullition of blood, and thirst (after midnight, followed by chill towards morning). ─ Burning heat in hands and feet, at night, which renders it needful to uncover them. ─ Great tendency to perspire by day, even when seated quietly; or else inability to perspire, with paleness of face and headache. ─ Profuse perspiration at night, sometimes with putrid smell (like rotten eggs). ─ Cold sweat on forehead and feet.

Mind

Want of memory : with heavy weight between eyes ; a few minutes after reading anything, the sense escapes him, and he is scarcely able to recall it after long reflection.
Indifference, low-spirited, dulness of mind ; after onanism.
Listless, sad, dreaming of the future.
Sad distressing thoughts about one's illness.
Aversion to mental or physical labor ; inability to think.
Hypochondriasis ; apathy ; weak memory ; caused by unmerited insults, sexual excesses, or by persistently dwelling on sexual subjects.
Suffering from pride, envy or chagrin.
Fretful peevishness, with excessive ill-humor.
Very sensitive to least impression ; least word that seems wrong hurts her very much.
Children are ill-humored, and cry for things, which, after getting, they petulantly push or throw away ; < early in morning.
Great indignation about things done by others or by himself ; grieves about consequences.
Ailments from indignation and vexation, or reserved displeasure ; sleeplessness.
Continual concern about the future.
Brain-tire, with great genital weakness ; irritability, inability to sustain a mental effort ; was insulted, being too dignified to fight, subdued his wrath and went home sick, trembling and exhausted.
For sixteen years attacks of mental disturbance, every four years, beginning on the 4th of January, always lasting two months ; great restlessness, would go about house in search of something, not knowing what, but if attracted by any object, would put it in his pocket if possible,
and, if not, would hide it in his coat ; excessive loquaciousness ; inability to read, on account of letters running together ; firmly believed he would lose his fortune, constantly told his wife to be careful that they did not starve ; thinks his wife will run away from

Inner head

Dull feeling in head, with inability to perform any mental labor.
Sensation of a round ball in forehead, sitting firmly there even when shaking head.
Pressive stupefying headache, especially in forehead, < on moving head and while standing.
Sensation as if head would burst, especially in forehead and when stooping.
Headache as if brain were compressed, mostly in forehead, with paroxysms of roaring in ears, which ceases much sooner than headache.
Dulness of head, anteriorly in middle of forehead, in a small spot as large as tip of finger ; had to be very careful when walking in street, did not know whether he was going to the right or left.
Hard pressure in right side of forehead.
A pressing boring stitch, lasting for a minute, in morning, from within outward, in left half of forehead, so violent that it awoke him twice.
Hard pressure in head in region of right temporal bone and on vertex.
Sharp, burning, needlelike stitches in left temple.
Dull stitches in right temple, internally and externally, as if bones would be pressed out, < by touch.
Brain aches, as if torn to pieces, morning on rising from bed, < from motion, > from rest and warmth ; headache passes off with much yawning.
Sharp, burning, needlelike stitches in left temple.

Feeling in occiput as if hollow, or as if brain were not large enough for the space.
Feeling as if occiput were compressed internally and externally.
Neuralgia of scalp, in a literary man, who had taken mercury and was debilitated ; pain < by excitement, worry, mental work, pressure of hat, and change of air ; > by quiet, solitude, rest and a warm room ; pain dull and stupefying, producing
a muddled feeling in brain, or as if a hard substance were pressing on skull ; all mental work was a trouble to him ; could not find right word, and ideas were slow in coming.

Outer head

Painful drawing in several places in head, externally ; < by touch.
Itching on scalp which was scurfy and moist.
Fine burning needle stitches externally on vertex.
Itching biting on scalp ; < by rubbing ; lasting several days.
Biting itching on upper part of occiput ; with sore pain ; recurring in same place about same time in evening.
Humid, itching, fetid eruption on occiput, sides of head and behind ears ; scratching changes place of itching, but increases oozing.
Chronic tinea capitis sicca ; whole hairy scalp covered with a dark scaly eruption, thickest at occiput, gradually thinning out till it reaches line of hair on forehead ; violent itching, < at occiput ; scratching causes bleeding and
discharge of clear, non-glutinous fluid, which dries very quickly ; hair is rapidly disappearing ; accumulated scales at thickest part, about on a line with mastoid process, measure a quarter of an inch in thickness ; the head is generally washed with soap and water daily,
detaching all scales and leaving scalp red and moist ; after washing there is a feeling of tension over whole scalp, very disagreeable, and particularly so around occiput, where it is actually painful ; marginal blepharitis and ectropion of left eye.
Purulent scald-head on occiput, with sour stinking smell, pediculi capitis, and itching preventing sleep.
Crusta lactea ; crusts from under which oozes a yellowish excoriating discharge ; small vesicles form where crusts have been removed, soon burst and discharge a yellowish corrosive fluid.
Painful sensitiveness of scalp, skin peels off, with itching and smarting, < in evening and from getting warm.
Hair falls off, mostly from occiput and around ears, with humid, fetid eruption, or dandruff on scalp.
Pressing, stinging and tearing pains in bones and in periosteum on cranium ; swelling and suppuration of bones (caries), with putrid-smelling sweat, day and night ; < from motion and contact.
Burning stinging on head, mostly on left temple ; < from heat of bed, at 3 P. M., and when lying on it.

Sight and eyes

On looking at sun, hot water runs out of left eye, scalding cheek and making eye smart
Dimness of sight, scintillations or flames before eyes, especially at night ; halos around candle.
The eyes lie excessively deep, with blue raised rings around them, as after great excesses.
Pupils dilated.
Syphilitic iritis, with bursting pain in eyeball, temple, and side of face, < from evening to morning, and upon using eyes by any light.
Laceration of cornea, with prolapse of iris, in a man, æt. 25, who was struck by a chip while chopping, tearing cornea from below upward. (Acon. [30], followed by Staphis. [2c].)
Lacerated or incised wounds of cornea ; after operation for cataract.
Dryness of eyes : in morning on waking ; in evening, with sensation of pressure.
Arthritic ophthalmia, pains extending to teeth ; eyes burn on least exertion, as if very dry, yet lachrymation is constant.
Sympathetic forms of chronic conjunctival catarrh, with inflammation of meibomian or ciliary glands.
Pain as if a hard substance were lying beneath left upper lid.
Pressure in upper lid, < on closing eye.
Itching of margins of lids.
Anchylosis, every month before full moon, leaving a small, hard tumor ; tensive pains from eye to teeth and cheek, aggravated at night, with headache, sneezing, coryza, etc.
Dryness of margin of lids, with hard nodules on borders, and destruction of hair follicles.
Blepharitis, margins of lids dry, with hardened styes, or tarsal tumors.
Left upper tarsal edge itches ; > by rubbing.
Styes, nodosities, chalazæ on eyelids, one after another, sometimes ulcerating.
Steatoma on conjunctiva palpebrarum.
Polypi of conjunctiva.
For eight months, styes on left upper eyelid ; severe pain ; pain confining her to a dark room, and usually to bed ; > from application of cold water ; thick, creamy, mild leucorrhœa.
Eyelids ulcerated and covered with styes and nodosities, look like a mass of corruption ; many sore places and ulcerated spots on face.
Mrs. B., æt. 32, six years ago had a steatoma cut out as large as a pea, on left upper lid ; two years ago had another on lower lid of same side similarly removed ; a third on same place, size of a lentil, situated on conjunctiva palpebrarum ; itching.
Steatoma of upper lid as large as a large bean, growing for years ; had one removed by knife only to make room for present one, much larger than first.
Stye does not suppurate and break, but remains a hard nodule.

Hearing and ears

Ringing in ears on moving head ; reports in ears ; sensation as if wind blew into them.
Hardness of hearing, with swelling of tonsils, especially after abuse of mercury.
Stitches in ears.

Smell and nose

Scratching in choanæ.
Ulceration of nostrils, with scabs deep in nose.
Frequent sneezing, without coryza.
Coryza ; at first discharge of thick mucus, afterward of thin water.
Violent coryza, one nostril stuffed up, much sneezing and lachrymation ; nasal voice.

Upper face

Countenance sunken, nose peaked, eyes sunken, with blue margins around them.
Brown and blue color of face, when getting angry.
Sharp burning stitches in left cheek, which provoke scratching.
Prosopalgia in an old lady, made life unendurable ; on touching spoon or fork to lips inexpressible pains shot from lips over face ; fluid food had to be eaten with fingers, could take no solid food, mastication impossible.
Tearing pain beginning in a carious tooth of left upper jaw, and extending through all upper teeth of that side ; pain in left cheek ; pain most severe in pes anserina, < from touch ; when very severe, pain extends behind l. ear and into left arm ; sensation as if
cheek were swollen ; spasm of œsophagus ; griping in abdomen ; spasmodic weeping ; oppressed breathing ; cold hands ; cold sweat on face. θ Prosopalgia.
Pressing and beating pain extending from decayed tooth to eye ; < from pressure or from contact of a metallic substance, > from heavy pressure ; pains stitching, burning, drawing, cutting, with sensation of swelling of affected side.
Inflammation of bones of face.
A boy æt. 3 months, with lichen, or a dry, itchy, pimply eruption over face and behind ears, skin rough, free from natural color and moisture, due to subcutaneous effusions of plastic lymph.
Serpiginous ulcer, with excruciating pain.

Lower face

Lips full of ulcers and scurfs, with burning pains.
Easy dislocation of jaw.
Painfulness of submaxillary glands, with or without swelling.
Induration like a cartilage, as large as a hazelnut, as if the glands were swollen beneath the chin anteriorly by the symphysis, with a hard pressive pain, when swallowing or when touched, or when rubbed by the neckband.
Caries of lower jaw, following osteitis, latter being brought about by injury to jaw bone during extraction of a carious tooth.

Teeth and gums

Black, crumbling, carious, exfoliate ; very sensitive to touch and to cold drinks.
Teeth turn black, or show dark streaks ; gums ache.
A piece scales off from posterior surface of an incisor.
Pain in a hollow tooth, always after eating, a biting drawing (in incisors a pressure) excessively < in open air, even while mouth is closed, gradually ceased in house.
Hollow teeth sensitive to slightest touch, if after eating slightest food remains in cavities, a violent pain extends into roots, gum becomes painfully sore.
Cold drinks seem to penetrate teeth, as if they were hollow.
Piercing-drawing in carious tooth and in corresponding one on other side in morning.
Tickling-sticking in back teeth of right lower jaw.
Toothache : in decayed teeth ; in roots of teeth ; in a whole row of teeth ; during menses ; gnawing tearing ; shooting into ear, throbbing in temples ; < from cold drinks and touch, not from biting on teeth ; < from
drawing in cold air, < after eating.
Gums : spongy, fall away from teeth, or present fistulouslooking ulcers ; pale, white, ulcerated and swollen ; aching when touched ; bleed when pressed upon and on cleaning teeth, burning-swelling with heat in cheek ; fungous
excrescences ; nodosities.
Toothache for three days and nights ; pain gnawing and jumping, affected left upper bicuspid ; palate swollen, but apparently no abscess, tooth not decayed ; pain < when tooth is touched, especially by hot things ; also < out
of doors, or drawing cold air into mouth, and at night.
A woman, æt. 32, had upon gum of upper jaw, before and behind, two central incisors, a vascular tumor size of a hazelnut ; upper lip swollen and pushed out ; tumor movable, general condition good ; salivation so abundant patient is obliged to have constant recourse to
handkerchief ; tumor excised, in consequence a violent hemorrhage, yielding only to cautery ; some time afterward tumor recurred, and was cured by Staph. [30].
Fistula dentalis.
Dentition : child very sensitive to mental or physical impressions ; winces and shrinks from every wry look or harsh word, and cries from least pain ; pale white appearance of gums, which are tender to touch ; pot-bellied children ; frequent desire for stool, not
relieved even by a free evacuation ; moist scald-head, with yellow scabs, offensive ; teeth decay as soon as they are cut.

Taste, speech, tongue

Taste : flat ; of food, bitter.
Glossitis ; mercurialized cases ; pain excessive, patients frantic ; beg to be killed, etherized or narcotized, as they cannot live in such agony ; threatened ulceration, or deep, foul, painful, sloughing ulcers.
Ulcerations or numerous vesicles in mouth or on tongue ; swelling of glands of neck and of follicles under tongue.

Inner mouth

Constant accumulation of saliva.
Painful excrescence on inside of cheek.
Mouth and tongue ulcerated and covered with blisters ; discharge of saliva, at times bloody ; fetid breath ; sickly complexion, with sunken cheeks ; hollow eyes with blue rings ; swelling of cervical glands, and blisters under tongue. θ Stomatitis.
Thrush changing into canker sores, with a bluish-red or yellowish bottom ; more or less flow of saliva and bad smell.

Palate and throat

Throat dry and rough, with soreness when talking and swallowing.
While talking she swallows continually.
Swelling of tonsils, also after abuse of mercury.
Induration of tonsils ; hypertrophy of tonsils with nasal voice.
Chronic tonsillitis, tonsils are not large, but hard from previous attacks of acute tonsillitis, strumous diathesis, cross and irritable.

Appetite, thirst. desires, aversions

Extreme hunger, even when stomach is full ; ravenous hunger for days.
Appetite for bread or milk.
Longing only for thin, fluid food (soup).
Great desire for wine, brandy or tobacco.
Want of thirst.

Eating and drinking

Child cries as soon as it eats.
After eating : cutting in abdomen ; dysenteric stool ; meat, cough worse.
After drinking : cutting in abdomen ; dysenteric stool.

Hiccough, belching, nausea and vomiting

Frequent hiccough.
Belching makes a scratching in throat, irritable larynx, and then is followed by cough.
Bitter eructations after sour food.
Waterbrash.
Nausea from vertigo, as in seasickness.

Scrobiculum and stomach

Sensation as if stomach were hanging down, relaxed.
Cardialgia ; aching and tensive pain in stomach, at times <, at other times > ; after eating, especially bread, with frequent nausea and constipation ; after indignation .
After becoming angry, trembling of whole body, oppression of chest and dyspnœa, so that he feared he would suffocate ; pressure as of a heavy weight lying upon stomach, severe tension in epigastrium ; nausea, and salty-bitter

Hypochondria

Biliary colic, after domestic disturbances ; after indignation.

Abdomen and loins

A feeling of weakness in abdomen, as if it would drop ; wants to hold it up.
Hard painful pressure in right side beneath umbilicus.
Griping pain, twisting about, here and there, in whole abdomen.
Spasmodic cutting in abdomen after eating and drinking.
Sufferings of pot-bellied children, with much colic and humid scald-head ; pains caused by a fit of chagrin or indisposition of nurse ; children in bad humor, cry for things, which, after getting, they petulantly push or throw away.
Colic : after indignation ; after lithotomy ; with urging to stool, or with urging to urinate and squeamishness, < after food or drink.
Incarceration of flatus in abdomen.
Painful swelling of inguinal glands.
Stitching toward left groin and testicle, each dart or stitch followed by such itching that patient was compelled to scratch ; darts and stitches began deep in flesh, and ended upon surface, point of ending being place that itched.
Eruption of pimples as large as peas over whole abdomen and thighs, which itch, and when scratched off are moist, but then have a burning pain.

Stools and rectum

Flatus : hot ; smells like rotten eggs.
Stool : yellowish, slimy ; mucous ; hot ; excoriating ; bloody ; offensive : smelling like rotten eggs ; involuntary when passing flatus.
Diarrhœa : < after drinking cold water ; < after eating ; in children.
Before stool : cutting pain ; urging.
During stool : tenesmus of bladder and rectum ; discharge of hot flatus.
After stool : cutting pain ; smarting in rectum ; itching of anus.
Chronic diarrhœa, or even dysentery, of weak, sickly children ; humid, fetid eruptions.
Dysenteric yellowish slimy stools, with much tenesmus, cutting colic, and general prostration.
After least food or drink, or after chagrin, griping and dysenteric stool.
Stool : retarded but soft ; costive, with much urging ; frequent enough, but hard and insufficient ; inertia of rectum ; impaction.
A fair-haired, delicate-looking girl is much troubled with constipation, bowels only act once a week ; motions are hard, round, and dry, and come away like dog's feces.
Constipation with bad taste in mouth, pain in gums, irregular appetite ; when Mercur. has been insufficient.
Itching in anus while sitting, when not at stool.
Hemorrhoids, with enlarged prostate ; intense pain in back and through whole pelvis.

Urinary organs

Itching needlelike stitches in region of urinary organs.
Constant darting pain in region of left kidney, < from cold, lying in cold bed, > from heat, when becoming warm in bed.
Urine scanty, dark, heavily loaded with mixed urates.
Pressure upon bladder.
Frequent urging to urinate, with a scanty discharge in a thin stream, or discharge of dark urine in drops.
Urging to urinate ; scarcely a spoonful was passed, mostly of a dark yellow red color, in a thin stream ; at times dribbling of urine, always followed by a sensation as if bladder were not yet empty.
Frequent urging to urinate in newly married people, especially the women ; great irritability of bladder and urethra.
Involuntary discharge of urine, acrid and corroding, with burning ; < from motion ; constipation.
Straining or external pressure causes no discharge of urine ; after difficult confinement.
Micturition copious and very frequent.
Profuse discharge of pale urine with urging.
Burning in urethra during and after urinating.

Male sexual organs

Sexual desire excited.
Impotence.
Impotency with irritability of bladder and urethra, brought on by sexual excess.
Effects of onanism or sexual excesses ; loss of memory ; hypochondriasis ; taciturnity ; face sunken ; abashed look ; nocturnal emissions ; backache ; weak legs ; relaxed organs ; deficiency of vital heat and

Chronic prostatitis in old men ; pain extending from anus along urethra, coming on after walking or riding, with frequent micturition by day, urine passing in small quantities, with dribbling afterward.
Pressive pain in left testicle while walking, also after rubbing ; still more violent when touched.

little finger, very soft and flabby ; nearly ever since he has suffered from an aching pain in it, especially on outer side ; great sensitiveness to touch ; pain more violent after touching it, or after any friction, with sharp shooting pain up cord into abdomen ; walking
upon frozen ground causes uneasiness ; at times so sensitive at night, he cannot sleep without keeping his knees widely separated ; there does not seem to be any inflammation in it ; unpleasant sensation in cerebellum, can hardly describe it, extends from occipital
protuberance to left ear, seems as if it were hollow, yet there is a dull ache, a feeling as if brain were not large enough to fill space ; when he happens to hurt testicle, head trouble is < ; region of head alluded to is sensitive to pressure ; > after sexual
intercourse ; at times thoughtful ; if reading, and some one calls his attention suddenly, he forgets where he was reading and what about ; scrotum on that side contracts, itches, and he has often to pinch and rub it between thumb and finger.
Atrophy of testicles.
Soft, humid excrescences on and behind the corona glandis.
Large, easily-bleeding lardaceous ulcer on penis ; condylomata about anus, and erosion like a chronic eczema, with profuse discharge of offensive-smelling serum ; burning, twitching, stitching pains, < to an intolerable degree during stool, and allowing him no rest.
Mercurial syphilis ; dry, pediculated fig-warts and mucous tubercles ; nervous weakness.

Female sexual organs

Nymphomania, with extreme sensitiveness to mental and physical impressions ; mind has been dwelling too much on sexual subjects.
Very sharp shooting pains in ovary, which is exquisitely sensitive to pressure ; pains extending into crural region and thighs.
Flow of blood from genitals, a long time after critical age.
Menses : irregular, late and profuse ; sometimes wanting ; first of pale blood, then dark and clotted ; occasionally spasmodic uterine contractions.
Amenorrhœa in consequence of chagrin with severe indignation.
Scorbutic diathesis, granular vegetations of vagina.
Painful sensitiveness of sexual organs, especially when sitting.
Spasmodic pains in vulva and vagina.
Stinging itching of vulva.
Prurigo senilis, or from parasites.

Voice and larynx. trachea and bronchia

Feeble voice from weakness of vocal organs, after anger.
Hoarseness, with much tenacious mucus in larynx and chest.
Nasal voice from stoppage of posterior nares.
While talking she swallows continually.
Rawness in larynx from talking.
Sensation of constriction and pressure in throat pit after anger, < when swallowing.

Respiration

Dyspnœa : with constriction ; after seminal emissions ; toward end of coition.
Shortness of breath from fulness and constriction in hypochondria and upper portion of abdomen.

Cough

Cough : spasmodic, hollow, with expectoration of yellow, tough, purulent mucus at night ; only during day ; after vexation or indignation ; < after eating meat ; excited by cleaning teeth.
Sputum loosened at night and generally swallowed.
Croupy cough in Winter, alternating with sciatica in Summer ; cough drove him out of bed compelling him to sit up all night, could not breathe while lying down, sensation as if something were loose in pit of stomach, like loose flesh, that pulled
every time he coughed ; cough excited by tobacco smoke.

Inner chest and lungs

Soreness and rawness in chest, especially when coughing.
Sticking itching between costal cartilages.
Sharp stitches with intermissions of several seconds, in region of fourth costal cartilage of right and left sides ; they slowly penetrate from within outward, without affecting inspiration or expiration.
Fine itching sharp stitches, which provoke scratching in upper part of sternum, just beneath pit of throat.
Pain in muscles of chest, as if bruised, in morning when she moves in bed, and by day when she folds her arms ; no sensitiveness to touch, and none in breathing.
Pain sometimes sticking, in and through diaphragm and lower part of chest, affecting her only on turning and rising in bed after waking in morning, especially when she goes to bed early, i. e, has been lying a long time, and when stretching out arms in
drawing for a long time during day.
Tightly adherent mucus in chest.

Heart, pulse and circulation

Palpitation : from least motion ; from mental exertion ; from music ; after siesta ; nervous ; so marked it can be seen, shakes the whole body.
Stitching pains in heart, or region of heart, stopping breathing.
Trembling beating of heart.
Pulse frequent and small ; often trembling.

Neck and back

Painful swelling of glands of throat, neck and axillæ.
Itching pimples on nape of neck.
Rheumatic drawing, pressure and tension in neck, with stiffness.
Pain as from a sprain in right shoulder, only in motion.
Violent pressive pain in left shoulder joint, not > by any motion.
Dull sticking pains in shoulder joint, < on touch and motion.
Itching stitches in both axillæ.
Pain in small of back as if broken to pieces, in morning in bed.
Pain in small of back as after overlifting ; < at rest, at night and in morning, and when rising from a seat.
In small of back stitches and pain, as from a sprain, during rest, ceasing on walking.
All joints are stiff in morning on rising from bed, especially shoulders, and sacral and hip joints.
Violent stitches upward in back.
Suppurating swelling in psoas muscles.

Upper limbs

Paralytic pressure in both upper and forearms, < by motion and touch.
Herpes : with scabs on elbows ; on hands.
Eruption of small pustules on arms and hands, gradually spreading, and exuding a yellowish corroding discharge ; severe tensive burning pains.
Tetter on hands, itches in evening and burns after scratching.
Numbness in tips of fingers.
Sensation as if a hard skin were drawn over tips of fingers of left hand ; there is little feeling in them, and sensation of touch is suspended.
Paralytic drawing pain in first joints of fingers at union of metacarpal bones, < by motion.
Fine jerking tearing in muscles of several fingers and in thumb, especially in tips.
Deep burning itching, sharp, needlelike stitches in left thumb, provokes scratching.
Osteitis of phalanges of fingers.
First phalanx of left index finger affected ; ulceration and swelling about joint.
Bones, especially of fingers, imperfectly developed.
Arthritic nodosities on fingers.

Lower limbs

Nates ache while sitting ; pain extends to small of back, sacrum and hip joint.
Sticking itching in gluteal muscles.
Pulsating in hip joint, as from beginning suppuration.
Aching pain around hip joint when walking and sitting.
Daily pains beginning at crest of ilium, right side, extending backward and downward to thigh, < early morning, on rising or on sitting down, > standing and from warmth.
Exceedingly severe pain in right leg, extending into genitals, particularly testicles ; attacks followed by great prostration. θ Sciatica.
Morbus coxarius, with abscess in right iliac region ; temperature 103.2°F, pulse 120 ; right leg one-half inch shorter than left ; right foot everted and gluteo-femoral crease on that side obliterated ; limps in walking ; night sweats ; had a severe fall
before present series of symptoms.
Crural neuralgia, stinging, stitching pains during movement.
Mrs. A., æt. 30, never pregnant ; menses irregular, uncertain, always late, sometimes wanting, but profuse, continuing a week or longer, consisting at first of pale blood, which became dark and clotted ; occasionally spasmodic uterine contractions ; from ten days
to two weeks previous to menses, sharp pains during motion, extending from point of egress of right crural nerve on thigh down over inner surface of knee, to great toe ; constant aching of limbs, with great heaviness during rest ; after first sense of pain, paralysis of leg, till
catamenia fully appeared, when it gradually became normal, dull aching of nates while sitting, extending to sacral and hip joint regions and small of back ; dull stitches during movement, and drawing sensation during rest, about knee and patella ; paroxysms of stinging pain along

All the limbs are affected ; everything is sore.
Osteitis of phalanges, with sweating and suppuration.
Arthritic nodosities of joints, especially of fingers.
Gout, rheumatic gout, and gouty nodosities, in corpulent men advanced in life, feeble pulse, palpitation dyspnœa on exertion, pains in smaller joints of hands and feet, with much swelling and hardness ; generally skin coaffection, alternating with pains in joints ; soles of
feet tender, knees weak.
Acute articular rheumatism of fast or debilitated men, with shifting pains.

Great weariness and sleeplessness ; after eating feels the need of lying down.
Painfulness of whole body as if bruised, with an excessively weak sensation.
Nervous weakness ; a feeling as if done up after much hard work.
Paralysis on one side, from anger.
Twitches at night.
Convulsions, with loss of consciousness, retraction of thumbs and foaming at mouth, brought on by domestic troubles (being unjustly accused of infidelity) ; intervals between fits from two to three days, at first, later a fit every month or two ;
duration of each attack in proportion to free interval ; from 1850 to 1865 was continually under allopathic treatment, without least benefit ; in spite of her many years of sickness she still looked robust ; neither cranium, spine nor any other part of her body showed anything
remarkable, only her physiognomy was rather stupid and her intellectual faculties weak ; she complained of loss of memory and impossibility to think.

Sleep

Violent yawning, forces tears from eyes ; as if he had not slept enough ; with desire to stretch.

Mind

The mental symptoms are very important, and the impressions made upon the mind and thence upon the body guide to Staphysagria as a remedy.

Excitable, easily aroused to anger, but seldom irascible, that is, easily disturbed and excited, but seldom manifests it.

Suitable in cases where complaints come from pent up wrath, suppressed anger, suppressed feelings. The person becomes speechless from suppressed indignation, anger with indignation. Complaints brought on by these causes; irritable bladder with frequent urging to urinate, lasting many days after suppressed wrath, after insults.

"Great indignation about things done by others or by himself; grieves about consequences."

A gentleman comes in contact with one beneath his station and an altercation takes place, an argument which ends in insult, and the gentleman turns his back on the other. He goes home and suffers; he does not speak it out, but controls it and then suffers from it.

He has sleepless nights and many days of fatigue, brain-fag; for days and weeks he cannot add nor subtract, makes mistakes in writing and speaking, has irritability of the bladder, colic, etc.

Loss of memory with a sense of weight between the eyes; it is difficult to say whether this is a feeling in the head or an effort to describe a dullness of mind. Feels as if a ball of wood were in the forehead, or as if the whole cerebrum were made of wood; it feels numb.

It is difficult to state whether it is a condition of the mind or head. Accompanying this sensation of a lump in the forehead is a feeling as if the whole back of the head were hollow; the patient may describe it as a feeling of numbness or a lack of sensation.

"Indifferent, low-spirited, dullness of mind after onanism."

Staph. cures these conditions when they are the result of sexual excitement, masturbation, excesses in venery, allowing the mind to dwell too much on venereal subjects. Thinking on sexual relations. These patients are irritable, easily fatigued, most excitable, and when they have to control their emotions they suffer intensely.

One who is in health can easily put aside a controversy, knowing that he has done what is right, but a Staph. patient when he has to control himself goes all to pieces trembles from head to foot, loses his voice, his ability to work, cannot sleep and a headache follows.

Many a time a man has come into my office with blue lips, trembling hands, pains about the heart and all over, and he thinks he is going to die. He tells a story of an altercation and pent up wrath, and Staph. stops his trembling and quiets him. Without it he would have sleepless nights, brain-fag, prostration and headache. This state belongs especially to those who have indulged in sexual excesses.

Now, the next step. The senses are in this same irritable state, so that the tips of the fingers are sensitive, the ears are sensitive to noise, the tongue is sensitive to tastes and the nun to odors; so sensitive that everything is painfully sensated.

Every little inflamed spot will have in its center sensitive points, little nerve spots; ulcers when touched cause the patient to go all to pieces and a convulsion threatens.

Hoemorrhoidal tumors are so sensitive that they cannot be touched. Little nerve tumors form in the skin, little polypoid growths the size of a wheat grain and denuded of epithelium, covered with moisture, red, inflamed, blue, and a mere touch will throw the patient into convulsions and suffering for days and nights. A hypersensitive nerve growth will come out on the hand or on the back. Sometimes it turns back.

Women

Again, a little wart will come out, especially about the genitals and anus, little caruncular growths about the urethra and vagina, so sensitive that if nipped between the fingers the patient will go into spasms, especially if a woman.

Staph. suits all three of the miasms.

These nervous states run all through the complaints. Look for a case of Staph. where the whole mind and nervous system are in a fret.

The Staph. headache is a numb, dull pain in the occiput and forehead, especially in these nervous constitutions.

"Sensation as of a round ball in the forehead, sitting firmly there even when shaking the, head."

Headaches from vexation and indignation.

Crusty, squamous eruptions on the scalp.

"Painful sensitiveness of the scalp, skin peels off, with itching and smarting, worse in the evening and from getting warm."

The scales are lifted up by a watery exudate and the denuded surface is extremely sensitive to touch.

New growths about the lids and balls of the eyes, extremely painful to the touch. Meibomian tumors (Con., Thuja ), in irritable children ( Kreos).

Another feature in Staph, is its action on the glands; scrofulous glands; glands of the neck enlarge; enlarged and indurated ovaries and testes; stitching, tearing pains in the glands everywhere. Hardness and chronic induration.

Stitching, tearing pains along the course of the nerves; in the heart, and as in such a nervous patient the mind is likely to be on the heart, the stitching pains in the intercostals are supposed to be in the heart. Stitching pains directly through the chest to the back.

Swelling of the tonsils after the abuse of Mercury. Chronic tonsilitis, tonsils are not large but hard from previous attacks of acute tonsilitis; strumous diathesis; cross and irritable.

"Pains come on after eating."

The Staph. patient has much difficulty in the bowels. Subject to chronic diarrhoea and to constipation. Colic, twitching, tearing pains in the abdomen. Diarrhoea from cold water, from eating, from indignation, anger, with flatulence of a terribly offensive odor like spoiled eggs.

"Chronic diarrhoea or dysentery of weakly, sickly children after anger; after being punished, after emotions." (Coloc. and Cham.)

Staph. and Coloc. resemble each other. In both, eating and drinking cause griping and stool, both have colic as if stones were squeezing; Staph. in the intestines, head and testes; Coloc. in the intestines and ovaries; both are worse from anger. Caust., CoIoc. and Staph. follow each other like Sulph., Calc. and Lyc.

It often happens that nervous women soon after marriage are attacked with frequent and painful urging to urinate which becomes extremely troublesome and may last many days. Staph, is very comforting to the young wife.

Urinary and Genitals: Great teasing and tearing all night long bloody urine; involuntary discharge of urine, acrid and corroding, with burning, worse from motion.

Profuse discharge of pale urine with burning and urging. Burning during and after urination.

Staph. has cured enlarged prostate with frequent urging to urinate, especially in old men; continued teasing with dribbling.

''Frequent urging to urinate, with a scanty discharge in thin stream or discharge of urine in drops; may be followed by a sensation as if the bladder were not fully emptied."

The most distressing symptom of the male genitals is excitability, but there is also impotence, great weakness of the sexual organs; the sexual desire is greatly increased but there is impotence.

Useful in the results of secret vice, long practiced.

"Seminal emissions followed by great chagrin and mortification, prostration, dyspnoea.

Effects of onanism or sexual excesses; loss of memory, hypochondriasis, taciturnity, face sunken, abashed look, nocturnal emissions, backache, weak legs, relaxed organs, deficiency of vital heat and tendency to take cold, deep sunken, red, and lusterless eyes, hair falls out; loss of prostatic fluid and impairment of sexual desire; dull and contusive pains in the testicles, voluptuous itching of the scrotum, atrophy of the testicles."

Think of the extremely nervous patient.

Dry, sensitive warts about the genitals, from sycosis or from the abuse of Mercury, which cause a tendency to warty growths. Moist red, offensive warts belong to Thuja.

The testes dwindle as well as become inflamed and swollen; genitals waste away.

Sensation as if there were worms crawling over him. Crawling, etc., in the female external genitals, Coff., Plat., Petrol., Apis, Tarent. hisp, the latter has. While outer parts feel as if insects were biting. and crawling, better from heat or cold.

In the female there is violent sexual excitement, nymphomania with extreme mental and physical impressions; mind has been dwelling too much on sexual subjects.

"Very sharp, shooting pains in the ovary, which is exquisitely sore to touch; pains extend along crural regions and thighs.

Menses irregular, late and profuse, sometimes wanting; first of pale blood, then dark and clotted.

Scorbutic diathesis, vegetations of the vagina; stinging, itching of the vulva."

Miscellaneous

Stitching in the region of the heart; trembling of the body with nervous excitement is an excellent indication for Staph.

Effects from loss of blood, shock, from surgical operations, injuries from sharp instruments, incised wounds. Stinging, etc., in surgical wounds, cuts; colic after lithotomy, urging to stool, qualmishness, worse from drinking.

Tetter on the hands, itches and burns in the evening after scratching; numbness in the tips of the fingers; arthritic nodosities on the fingers.

I remember a patient suffering from gouty nodosities; he had lived a life of peculiar continence, dwelling on his vices, broken down in body. Staph. brought out an eruption on his legs as high up as the knees that looked like a pair of trousers.

One continuous coat of crusts which lasted a year before it dwindled, but he was greatly improved in his body and his enlarged joints gradually improved. The eruption was yellow, crusty, tough, leathery, and, when lifted up by the moisture beneath, it had to be cut off like a bandage; he was practically crippled; new crops came out on the parts clipped off. It was with difficulty that be walked, for the crusts cut him.

Bone troubles, exostoses, inflammation of the periosteum.

Acute articular rheumatism of fast or debilitated men, with shifting pains. Mercurial bone diseases. ulcers, caries, injuries caused by sharp, cutting instruments. Nightly bone pains. (Asa f., Merc., Sil.)

Characteristic

For the mental effects of onanism and sexual excesses.

Very sensitive to slightest mental impressions; least action or harmless word offends.

Great indignation about things done by others or by himself; grieves about consequences.

Apathetic, indifferent, low-spirited, weak memory from sexual abuses (Anac., Aur., Nat., Phos. ac.).

Ailments from pride, envy or chagrin.

Ill-humored children cry for things which, after receiving, they petulantly push or throw away (Kreos.).

Was insulted; being too dignified to fight subdued his wrath and went home sick, trembling and exhausted (the rev. of, Nux).

Mechanical injuries from sharp-cutting instruments; post-surgical operations; stinging, smarting pains, like the cutting of a knife.

For the bad effects of: onanism, sexual excesses, loss of vital fluids; chagrin, mortification, unmerited insults; indignation, with vexation or reserved displeasure (Aur.).

Styes, chalazæ on eyelids or upper lids, one after another, leaving hard nodosities in their wake (Con., Thuja).

Toothache: during menses; sound as well as decayed teeth; painful to touch of food or drink, but not from biting or chewing; < drawing cold air into mouth (Ant. c., Mer.); < from cold drinks and after eating.

Extreme hunger even when stomach is full of food.

Teeth are black, show dark streaks through them; cannot be kept clean; crumble; decay on edges (at the roots, Mez., Thuja); scorbutic cachexia.

Sensation as if stomach and abdomen were hanging down, relaxed (Agar., Ipec., Tab.). Craving for tobacco.

Colic: after lithotomy or ovariotomy; attending abdominal section (Bis., Hep.).

Urging to urinate, has to sit at urinal for hours; in young married women; after coition; after difficult labor (Op.); burning in urethra when not urinating; urging and pain after urinating in prostatic troubles of old men; prolapse of bladder.

Painful sensitiveness of sexual organs, vulva so sensitive can scarcely wear a napkin (Plat.).

Onanism: persistently dwelling on sexual subjects; constantly thinking of sexual pleasures.

Spermatorrhœa: with sunken features; guilty, abashed look; emissions followed by backache, weakness; prostration and relaxation or atrophy of sexual organs.

Cough: only in the daytime, or only after dinner, worse after eating meat; after vexation or indignation; excited by cleaning the teeth.

Croupy cough in winter alternating with sciatica in summer; cough excited by tobacco smoke (Spong.).

Backache, < at night in bed, and in the morning before rising.

Arthritic nodosities of joints, especially of the fingers (Caul., Colch., Lyc.); inflammation of phalanges with sweating and suppuration.

Sleepy all day, awake all night ; body aches all over.

Fig-warts ; dry, pediculated, cauliflower-like ; after abuse of mercury (Nit. ac., Sab., Thuja).

Aggravation

Mental affections; from anger, indignation, grief, mortification; loss of fluids; tobacco; onanism; sexual excesses; from the least touch on the affected parts.

Type

Intermittent, quotidian, tertian ; typhoid, typhus, zymotic, yellow.

Time

9 A. M.; daily, same time; 3 P. M.

Prodrome

Ravenous hunger for days (see Cina, Sil.).

Chill

Without thirst. Chill predominates. Shaking chill of whole body, with hot cheeks, cold hands, warm forehead, without subsequent heat or thirst (Sep., Sul.). Shivering over whole body, without thirst or subsequent heat. Chill with goose-flesh about 3 P. M., which was relieved by exercise in open air. Chill ascends from the neck over the head and face, or transient shivering running down the back (transient chills run up the back, Sul.). Chill worse in a warm room (Apis).

Heat

With thirst; at night; could not sleep after 3 A. M., with shaking chill at 9 A. M. Great heat at night, especially of the hands and feet, must be uncovered (Sul.—external heat is unbearable, Puls.). Heat without subsequent sweat. Burning heat at night (Ars., Sep.).

Sweat

Profuse in afternoon, without thirst, but with heat over the whole body (Nux). Warm night-sweat on abdomen, feet, genitals. Night-sweat of bad odor, like rotten eggs; with desire to uncover. Sweats when sitting quiet (Psor.). Cold sweat on forehead and feet.

Pulse

Very fast, but small and trembling.

Tongue

White coating; food tastes bitter. Gums white, spongy, ulcerated, bleed when touched.

Apyrexia

Extreme hunger, even when stomach is filled with food ; putrid taste in mouth, gums bleed easily; constipation. Longing for fluid food, soup, bread and milk (longing for eggs, Cal.).
