Warts on prepuce. Old, hard chancres. Heart flutters, then rushes of blood to head. Nodes on shin bones. Cramp in calf, after walking. Fiery red ulcers, eruptions, etc. Sweat, < nose.

We are led to use this for very red, and very fiery looking ulcers, which may occur in the throat or in any other part of the body, in the mouth, on the legs; particularly if there be nodes on the shinbones. For very angry looking chancres.

For certain forms of ciliary neuralgia and ulceration upon a syphilitic base, this remedy is most effective. Sleepless during night.
Head
Congestion to head; face purple red.
Eyes
Pains from lachrymal duct around eye to temple, from inner canthus across brows to ear. Severe shooting pain in bones of orbit, especially running from inner to outer canthus in the bone. Redness of whole eye. Lids granulated; canthi and lids red.
Nose
Pressive sensation, as from heavy spectacles. Pain about root, extending into bones on each side (Aur; Kal hyd).
Throat
Stringy mucus passed through posterior nares into throat. Dryness of mouth and throat; must rinse the mouth. Fiery-looking ulcers in mouth and throat.
Male
Prepuce swollen; warts on it which bleed easily; testicles enlarged; buboes; angry-looking chancres. Syphilides, squamous and vesicular.
Female
Leucorrhœa. Feeling of pressure in vagina.
Extremities
Pain in forearm from elbow down, including hands. Pain in long bones when barometer lowers; coldness of joints.
Skin
Very fiery-red looking ulcers. Nodes on shin-bones. Buboes. Condyloma, easily bleeding.
Modalities
Worse, lying on right side (feels as if contents of body were being dragged over to that side).

Mind and Disposition
Indisposition for mental labor. Sensation of fulness of the head from mental application. Forgetfulness (forgets things he has to do). Fretful, easily provoked. Desire to be alone.
Head
Giddiness in the morning after rising, when stooping, with nausea. Fulness in the head ; the eyes are reddened. Congested sensation over the whole head, principally the forehead. Congestion of blood to the head, particularly to the vertex ; worse after eating. Intense headache ; he cannot raise his head from the pillow ; relieved by external pressure. Dull pain in the forehead, which is cold ; relieved by heat. Sensation as if touched by a cold metallic body, on a small space over the root of the nose. In the morning, after waking, pain in the forehead and top of the head ; worse when lying on the left side and back ; better and going off, when turning on the right side, and after rising. Shooting pain in the left side of the head, with increase of saliva and great flow of urine. Sensitiveness of the head to the touch -even the hairs are sore.
Eyes
Shooting pains in the inner canthus of the right eye, with burning and itching. Inflammation of the right eye ; itching, pressing and pricking at the inner angle and lower lid ; constant lachrymation on looking steadily, with profuse discharge of mucus from the nose. Flow of tears. Sticking pain about the punctum lachrymale of the upper eyelid. Redness of the whole eye, with swelling of the face.
Ears
Roaring in the ears, with swelling of the face (after eating). Scurfy eruption in the right external ear. Itching in the right ear.
Nose
Itching of the nose, with bleeding (very dark blood) after blowing it. Coryza, with lameness of the thighs and aching pain in the small of the back ; lumps of dirty yellow mucus are discharged from the posterior nares.
Face
Heat of the face, which is much swollen, mostly about the eyes.
Mouth and Throat
Both corners of the mouth are chapped. Tongue coated white in the morning. A small ulcer on the roof of the mouth, on the right side of the tip of the tongue ; on the tip of the tongue. Soreness in the roof of the mouth. Dryness in the mouth and throat at night, which causes him to drink often. Inflammation, with great dryness of the throat and mouth ; worse at night. Dryness and irritation of the throat (posterior nares, tonsils, fauces) at night, with soreness during the day ; in the morning, secretion of tenacious mucus also, in lumps, from the posterior nares. Contracting pain in the throat during empty deglutition. Fulness in the throat, causing a constant desire for swallowing. Taste bitter (in the morning). Increased flow of saliva (and of urine). Salivation. Scanty, tenacious, frothy saliva in the mouth, without thirst ; better after drinking. Dryness and putrid taste in the mouth.
Stomach and Abdomen
Appetite increased. Soreness in the stomach with dizziness and lightness in the head and tightness in the temples. Nausea, alleviated by eructations. Nausea, with water-brash (in the evening). Flashes of heat confined to the abdomen, with great flatulence (worse in the forenoon).
Stool and Anus
Soft, scanty stools twice a day, preceded by pinching ; less afterwards. Bloody dysentery. Sensation of formication in the anus, as if from a large worm. Little pimples around the anus, with burning and itching ; thin stools and tenesmus.
Urinary Organs
Frequent and increased emission of watery urine ; also daring the night. Pain, as if from a sore in the urethra when urinating ; this pain wakes him up at night.
Genital Organs
Men. Swelling of the penis. Redness and swelling of the prepuce, with painful itching. Violent itching of the corona glandis, with profuse secretion of pus. Small, shining red points on the glans penis. Blennorrhœa of the glans penis. Sycotic excrescences. Violent erections in the evening. Women. Leucorrhœa, causing, during its discharge, a pressing in the vagina.
Respiratory Organs
Hoarseness in the evening. Chest oppressed, feels contracted ; relieved by stretching himself. Dyspnœa, with heat. Pain running over the ensiform cartilage, from the seventh rib on the right side diagonally through the chest. Cough from tickling in the throat.
Back
The muscles of the back part of the neck seem as if contracted. Aching in the small of the back, as if bruised. Pain all over the back down to the loins, aggravated on drawing a long breath.
Extremities
Upper. Pain in the left shoulder, between the clavicle and, scapula ; interiorly. Pain in the middle of the upper part of the right arm, as though it would break. Periodical shooting pains in the arms. Sensation of lameness in the right arm. Numbness of the left arm, from the elbow to the end of the little finger. It feels as if the "crazy-bone" was struck. The joints of the fingers and knuckles are red (and hot). Lower. Shooting, drawing and aching pains in the thighs, from the hip-joints nearly down to the condyles ; worse at night. Violent itching on the inside of the thighs, knees and legs ; worse on the knees, especially at night. Profuse perspiration between the thighs (when walking). Rheumatic pain in the right knee-joint ; worse when walking (ascending), better at rest. Pain in the tendo Achilles and os calcis after walking. Coldness in the joints. Coldness of the feet, day and night.
Generalities
Sensation of lameness in all the limbs. Weariness, languor, tired and prostrated worse before eating, better when riding in the open air. General nervous, uneasy sensation.
Sleep
Sleepiness in the day-time and sleeplessness at night ; unconquerable desire to sleep after dinner, early in the evening (during the day). Restlessness and sleeplessness at night, from a constant flow of ideas changing from one thing to another. Restless sleep, with vivid dreams and much talking.
Fever
Pulse slower in the forepart of the day, accelerated in the evening. Coldness and chilliness in the warm room. Internal and external heat of the body during the whole night. Profuse perspiration between the thighs. Perspiration most at noon.
Skin
Itching of the nose (bleeding after blowing it), of the eye-lids, canthi (outer), ears, face (left side), palms of the hands (right), thighs (inside), knees, legs, at the anus (at night), on the shoulders (evening). Sensation as if pimples were coming out over the body. Red papulous eruption, without itching, on both elbows. Redness of the skin.
Conditions
The pains intermit in severity. Aggravations in the evening and at night, except of the perspiration, which is worse at midday ; after sleeping (headache). Amelioration in the open air, and after dinner.

Characteristics
Cinnabar . corresponds to sycosis as well as to syphilis, and to combinations of the two. In warts on the prepuce it is more specific than Thuja ; especially for fan-shaped warts. In the mental sphere there is indolence and indisposition to mental labour. Forgetful. Fretful, easily provoked. Headache with nosebleed. General sensitiveness to touch: bones of skull, scalp, roots of hair; bridge of nose; warts bleed when touched. Sensation on bridge of nose as if touched with metallic substance, uneasy creeping and pressing sensation about nasal bones as from wearing spectacles when not used to them. Jerkings and pullings are frequent. Berridge reports this symptom cured: "Left leg feels shorter than right whilst walking." jerking in penis; occurring during sleep. Tearing stitches in glans. Burning, stinging, itching of corona glandis. Leucorrhœa, the discharge of which causes a pressure in vagina. Hæmorrhages are frequent: nose-bleed; bleeding piles. In addition to dysenteric symptoms there is obstinate constipation, stools hard and too large. Protrusion of anus during stool. Formication as from a large worm. Little pimples round anus with burning and itching. The skin is much affected. Redness predominates (colour of the drug). Red spots. Heat, redness, and swelling of face, especially about eyes. Antidoted by: Hepar, Nit. ac., Opium, and Sulphur. Compare: Camph. (red spots); Lach., Merc., Nit. ac., Thuja (Cinnab. is better than Thuja in warts on prepuce); compare also Sep. (warts on margin of prepuce); Ant. t. (warts at back of glans). Seneg. has > bending head backward, Clem. has headache < from same; Clem. also has vertigo on lifting head up or moving head; Cinnab. has pain in back of neck when head is thrown back.

Stomach
At night, heat, which extends upwards from the stomach towards the neck and the head, and disperses on rising up in bed. ─ Soreness in the stomach, with dizziness and lightness in the head and tightness in the temples. ─ Nausea, alleviated by eructations. ─ Nausea, with water-brash (in the evening).
Abdomen
Flashes of heat confined to the abdomen, with great flatulence (worse in the forenoon).
Stool and Anus
Evacuations, soft and frequent, preceded by pinchings in the abdomen; less afterwards. ─ Bloody dysentery. ─ Greenish mucous diarrhœa. ─ Sensation of formication in the anus, as if from a large worm. ─ Little pimples around the anus, with burning and itching; thin stools and tenesmus.
Urinary Organs

Dimness and opacity of cornea.
Marked photophobia and lachrymation, with redness.
Redness of whole eye, with swelling of face.
Shooting pains through eye into head.
Sharp, stitching, stinging, or dull, aching pain above eye, extending from internal to external canthus, or runs around eye ; pain may extend into eye or up into head.
Inflammation of right eye ; itching, pressing and pricking at inner angle and lower lid ; constant lachrymation on looking steadily, with profuse discharge of mucus from nose.
Shooting pains in inner canthus of right eye, with burning and itching.
Outer half of left eye injected and puffy ; pains severe, seeming to run around the eye, < at night.

Uneasy creeping and pressive sensation about ossa nasi, lasting about an hour ; the sensation experienced by most persons on putting on a pair of heavy spectacles, if not accustomed to wear them.
Sensation of weight and pressure at root of nose, zygoma and temples. θ Catarrh.

Upper face
Hot face, which is much swollen, mostly about eyes.

Teeth and gums
Right molars and bicuspids (some decayed) feel soft, heavy, and too large, at 8 P. M. and at 2 or 3 A. M. ; sensation comes and goes gradually.
On biting teeth together, second right upper decayed molar feels as if it would fly to pieces.
Taste, speech, tongue
Taste : metallic ; bitter (in morning), putrid.
Tongue coated white in morning.
Inner mouth
Soreness in roof of mouth.
A small ulcer on roof of mouth, on right side of tip of tongue.
Salivation ; increased flow of saliva and of urine. θ Inflammatory affections of mouth and fauces.
Inflammation with great dryness in mouth and throat, < at night, which causes him to drink often.

Griping colic, followed by soft, mushy stools.

Warts on prepuce, frenum and inner surface, bleeding when touched.
Phimosis, with profuse, fetid, dirty, pus-like discharge. θ Secondary syphilis.

Leucorrhœa, the discharge of which causes a pressure or labor-like pain in vagina.

Shooting across abdomen, either right to left or left to right, during pregnancy.
Long-continued false labor pains, child's head pressed against symphysis pubis with violent tenesmus in anus.

Red spots and points on neck and chest, changing to little blotches.

The muscles of back part of neck seem as if contracted.
Pain in back of neck shooting to occiput, with stiffness and hard swelling of glands at back of neck.
Aching in small of back as if bruised, with coryza.
Sudden stitches and tearing pains on each side of spine, in back and lumbar region.
Pain all over back down to loins, < on drawing a long breath.
Upper limbs
Pain in left shoulder, between clavicle and scapula, interiorly.
Periodical shooting pains in arms.
Pain in upper part of right arm, as if it would break.
Sensation of lameness in right arm.
Numbness of left arm, from elbow to end of little finger.
Sensation as if "cazy-bone" had been struck.
Joints of fingers and knuckles are red and hot.
Œdema of right arm.

Shooting, drawing and aching pains in thighs, from hip joints nearly down to condyles ; < at night. θ Ischias rheumatica and syphilitica.

On biting teeth together : second right upper decayed molar feels as if it would fly to pieces.
Riding in open air : > weariness, languor, tiredness and prostration.
Skin
Itching of nose (bleeding after blowing it), of eyelids, canthi (outer), ears, face (l. side), palm of hand (right), thighs (inside), knees, legs, at anus (at night), on shoulders (evening).
Burning and itching of skin, < after scratching.
Redness of skin ; red spots on skin.
Sensation as if pimples were coming out over body.
Eruption of red points, spots and pustules.
Red, papulous eruption, without itching, on both elbows.
Red eruption on finger, sometimes with pustules filled with yellow matter ; the same under right knee, with occasional itching.
Chronic impetigo, pustules and scabs on upper lip, immediately under nose ; right nostril also somewhat tumefied.
Gangrenous ulcerations ; fiery, angry-looking ulcers. θ Sycosis.
Honeycombed ulcers ; fistulous.
Elevated ulcers, which have the appearance as if condylomata would grow out of them.
Stage of life, constitution
Combination of scrofula with syphilis or sycosis, or syphilis and tuberculosis.
Syphilis complicated by scrofula, or previous mercurial treatment.
Arthritic patient addicted to spirituous liquors ; prosopalgia, parotitis and vesical catarrh.
Girl, suffering from dysmenorrhœa ; tapeworm.
Man, æt. 28, sanguine temperament, scrofulous ; secondary syphilis.
Man, æt. 29, syphilitic phimosis.
Relations
Antidoted by Cinchon ., Hepar , Nitr. ac ., Opium , Sulphur .

Lecture
The symptoms are worse at night from warmth of the bed, and when perspiring, like Mercurius. Worse from both heat and cold,
Catarrhal inflammation. Fig warts ( Thuja). Ulcers. Many complaints from eating. Syphilis in all stages. Suppurating glands; chancres. It is best to study this remedy as a form of Mercurius, which has a few cunning phases of its own. It is a deep acting remedy in sycosis
The patient desires to be alone. Aversion to mental work. Forgets things which he intended to do. Mind crowded with thoughts preventing sleep.
The pains in the head are violent; worse after eating; better by heat and pressure. Fullness in the whole head. Constriction. Pain in the cold forehead, which is ameliorated by heat. Tearing in the forehead before the menstrual flow. Pain in the forehead and vertex in the morning, worse lying on the left side and back, ameliorated lying on the right side, and it passes off after rising.
Shooting pains in the left side of the head with flow of saliva and copious urine. Headache with nosebleed. Sensitive scalp and skull. Supra-orbital neuralgia.
Stitching, and dull pains in the eyes. Inflammation of the conjunctiva; worse at night. Red, congested lids. Ptosis. Weak vision. Iritis of syphilitic origin. The symptoms are worse at night. Sharp paroxysmal pains from the warmth of the bed.
Roaring in the ears after eating. Itching in the ears.
Cold spot on root of nose Pressure on the bones of the nose. Coryza with dirty yellow -mucus drawn from posterior nares. Epistaxis; pains in back and limbs.
The symptoms of the teeth are similar to Mercurius.
Tongue coated white every morning. Taste putrid, metallic and bitter. Sore ulcerated mouth. Salivation. Inflammation of mouth and throat with great thirst, worse at night. Dry mouth, and viscid mucus in the throat. Fullness in the throat, with constant desire to swallow. Dryness of the throat.
Aversion to food. Eructations, and vomiting. Tenderness of the stomach.
Syphilitic buboes.
Dysentery, worse every night; bloody mucous stools; much straining. Diarrhoea, with greenish stools, worse at night. Protrusion of anus during stool.
Copious urine. Pain as from an ulcer in urethra when urinating; it wakes him also at night. Albumin in the urine.
Inflammation of glans penis with profuse secretion of pus. Increased sexual desire. Swelling of prepuce with much itching. Warts on the prepuce and fraenum, bleeding when touched. Chancres on the prepuce of gangrenous odor. Inflamed and swollen chancres, hard, discharging pus. Indurated, or neglected chancres.
Gonorrhoea, of yellowish green discharge, much pain during flow of urine. Symptoms worse at night, and from the warmth of the bed. The patient is sensitive to both a warm room, and to cold air. Induration of testes.
Syphilitic laryngeal ulcers in a tubercular patient. Hoarseness in the evening.
Pulse fast in the evening and night.
Stiff neck with pains shooting to occiput. Stitching pains each side of spine in dorsal and lumbar regions, worse on deep breathing.
Pain in the limbs at night. Sensitive to sudden changes in the weather. Lame, bruised and stiff in all the limbs. Pains worse from motion. Syphilitic nodes on tibia.
Pain in tendo Achillis and os calcis after walking. Numbness in the feet. Cold feet, day and night. Wandering gout.
Burning itching of the skin, worse scratching. Itching all over. Redness, and red spots on the skin. Pustules. Gangrenous ulcers. Elevated ulcers.
It is antidoted by Hepar and Nitric acid . It is closely related to Thuja.
