Mind and Disposition

Sudden vanishing of thought. Thoughtlessness. Vivacity, looks on the bright side of everything ; is inclined to sing. Bashful and taciturn.

Head

Pulsating pains in the head and neck preventing one from writing. The whole head feels ; sore as if bruised, or as if it had been exposed to the sun. Stitches in the head with nightly sleeplessness. Heaviness in the head. Vertigo with loss of consciousness. Vertigo in the morning, on rising from the bed. Stitches ; over the left eye. Headache, with giddiness, heat in the head, sleepiness, yawning, thirst. Violent headache ; heaviness on the vertex ; when walking, it feels as if the head would fall forward. The head feels so heavy that it falls forward if he raises ; himself. Pressing pain in the temples. The headache is worse when walking in the sun. The headache is ; lighter, when lying on the painful side. Sensation of lightness in the head. The hair becomes nearly dry ; falling off of the hair.

Eyes

Blue circle around the eyes. Burning in the eyes, compelling one to close them. Sensation of heaviness of the eyes. Sensation of dryness of the eyelids. Painfulness of the eyes when moving them, with headache. Stitches in the eyes ; (with headache). The light of the candle looks blue.

Ears

Redness and heat in the ears. The ears feel as if closed.

Nose

Pressure at the root of the nose. Dryness of the now. Sensation of coldness, when drawing the air in. Bleeding of the nose in the morning.

Face

Bloated, yellowish face. Heat rises to the face followed by violent itching, stinging, and burning, the face swells up and on it are formed small vesicles filled with yellow fluid, they finally disappear with peeling off of the skin. A large number of small vesicles on the skin, they peel off. Pricking pains in the lips. The lips ; are pale. The lower lip hangs down. Involuntary twitching of the under lip.

Mouth and Throat

Dryness of the mouth. Burning the mouth not relieved by cold water. The whole mouth and tongue are full of small vesicles, he can only take fluid nourishment. The mouth bleeds. Burning on the tongue. Dry tongue. Tongue coated white as in aphthæ. On the white-coated tongue numerous small circumscribed red, not coated spots. Bloody taste. Bitter taste, worse after sleeping. Increased saliva, fetid, yellowish, burning. Burning at the soft palate and the roof of the mouth. Burning in the throat. Aversion to meat and bread. Longing for water and aversion to wine and alcoholic drinks. Great thirst for water, but a constrictive sensation ascending from the stomach prevents ; her swallowing it. Inflammation and suppuration of the tonsils with wheezing breathing and suffocative attacks. Sore throat during scarlet fever. White yellowish burning ulcers on the tonsils and in the throat. Palate much elongated. Great dryness of the throat on waking. Stitches in the throat. Sensation of constriction in the throat ascending from the stomach, caused by accumulation of air, with palpitation of the heart and great sensation of weakness, impeding speech. Increased secretion of saliva, with headache or sore throat. Tongue coated white, with redness of the tip of the tongue. Bitter taste in the mouth. Painfulness of the left tonsil. Sensation of plug in the throat (left side).

Stomach and Abdomen

Violent vomiting, bitter, watery, green, of the ingesta. Vomiting at night of a greasy watery substance, a white substance like hardened fat swims on the top of it. The vomiting relieves the headache. Burning in the stomach and throat with nausea. Burning in the pit of the stomach. Swelling of the pit of the stomach with tenderness to the touch. Distended abdomen. Sensation of soreness, as ; if bruised, of the abdominal walls. Eruptions of rash on the abdomen. Rumbling in the abdomen renewed by every motion and when taking a deep inspiration, with headache which is much increased near the warm stove. Colic after drinking water. Colic and diarrhœa (at midnight). Desire for acids, and aversion to sweet things ; the tongue being coated white with redness on the tip of it. Nausea, especially in a draft of air, with headache. Icy coldness in the stomach. Sensation of emptiness in the stomach (and head).

Stool and Anus

Sudden desire to go to stool (in the morning) and after stool tenesmus. Diarrhœa with much discharge of flatulence. Diarrhœa with burning in the stomach and anus. Bloody evacuations with colic, sleepiness and giddiness. Stools, painful, black, fetid, bloody, with tenesmus. Sensation of fulness in the rectum. After stool pulsation in the anus ; discharge of fetid blood from the hæmorrhoidal tumors. Soft stool, with vomiting and discharge of prostatic fluid after micturition. Hard stool, in balls. Spasmodic contraction of the sphincter ani.

Urinary Organs

Stitches in the bladder before and at the beginning of micturition. Burning in the urethra. Frequent discharge of watery urine. Drawing pain from the anus through the urethra. The urine is discharged in a small stream, and with straining, -it feels as if a swelling retarded it (prostatitis).

Genitals

Men. Itching in the scrotum. Women. Before menstruation congestions of the head. Pale menstrual blood. Colic during menstruation.

Respiratory Organs

In the larynx scraping ; cutting as with a knife ; tension. Cough, after drinking, at night (midnight). Suffocative attacks with pulsation in the chest, while coughing or as soon as he begins to talk. Oppression of the chest relieved by expectorating. Rattling of mucus on the chest when breathing. The breath is very offensive, perceptible to oneself. Pulsations in the chest. Constriction in the chest. Stitches in the middle of the sternum. Frequent hawking with nausea. Stitches in the heart as from needles. Palpitation of the heart in the evening, as from eating. Larynx feels raw, as if the air were too cold. Tickling in the throat when breathing. Cough, barking, during sleep. Stitches in the left side of the chest.

Back and Neck

Stiffness of the neck in the morning. Backache with nausea and tenesmus. Stiffness in the small of the back (and the fingers). Soreness in the region of the kidneys. Stitches in the left shoulder-blade and the left breast at intervals.

Extremities

Upper. Trembling and heaviness of the arms. When waking the hands feel as if asleep and numb. Trembling of the hands. Blue finger nails. Lower. Trembling of the legs. Cramps in the legs and feet. Tingling in the feet when sitting. Stitches in the heels. Upper. The left arm feels as if paralyzed. Formication on the right hand. Paralysis of the right wrist (in the morning). Great weakness of the hands and fingers, so that he cannot hold any thing. In the wrist (especially the left) sensation as if sprained. Lower. Weakness and sensation of dryness in the foot-joints and soles ; of the feet. Sensation of weakness, and as if sprained, in the knees. Cram in the soles of the feet (in the evening). Cold feet.

Generalities

Convulsions. Stitches here and there. Heaviness in the limbs. Desire to lie down, which does give no relief. Great weakness and debility, with pale face.

Fever

Pulse feeble, accelerated. Coldness of the hands and feet. Flashes of heat, as if flames were spreading from the pit of the stomach, uncovers himself to become cooler. Fever heat with tingling in the skin and desire to cover oneself with loss of consciousness, painful deglutition, restlessness, profuse micturition. Typhus fever with tympanitis and sensitiveness of the abdomen aggravated by drinking water. Chill relieved by being warmly covered in bed. Chill, beginning in the back. Heat in the evening, with dull headache.

Sleep

Great sleepiness. Wakens as from electric shocks on the neck (above the larynx).

Skin

Redness of the skin (hands). Itching on the chest, between the shoulders.

Conditions

Most symptoms are aggravated from anger and after eating. Aggravation at night. Amelioration from heat and when lying down. More symptoms appear while sitting. Aggravation in the sun (headache). Amelioration when covering up warm in bed (chill).

Sexual Organs

Men. Sexual desire increased. Drawing pain in the testicles. Women. Menstruation too early.

"A normally white, usually dark olive green, soft, glutinous mucous substance, of a urinous odour, which floats in the allantois fluid, or is attached to the allantois membrane, of the mare or cow, chiefly during the last months of pregnancy" (Hering). Trituration of the dried substance taken from the tongue of a newly-born filly.

Clinical

Chorea. Melancholia. Prostatitis. Wrist, paralysis of; rheumatism of.

Characteristics

The clinical experience with this remedy has been so limited, that but few characteristic indications have been made out. These, however, are peculiar: Icy coldness in stomach. Violent pain in wrists. Paralysis of wrist in morning in bed. Weakness of hands and fingers so that he cannot hold anything. A case of chorea was cured on these last symptoms. There is weakness, restlessness, melancholy. The headache is > lying on painful side, < walking in sun. Chilliness, > from being covered. A peculiar sensation is as if the head would fall forward on walking; as of a plug in the throat; as if a swelling retarded the flow of the urine. There is desire to lie down, but no relief on doing so.

Relations

Antidoted by: Coffee. Caust. relieved the paralysis of wrist. Compare: Anac. (plug sensation).

Melancholy; a young man sits in the corner and does not want to have anything to do with the world. ─ Restlessness; must move from place to place.

General

A normally white, usually dark olive green, soft, glutinous, mucous substance, of a urinous odor, which floats in the allantois fluid, or is attached to the allantois membrane of the mare or cow chiefly during the last months of pregnancy.
Triturations were made from the dried substance obtained from Rev. John Helfrich (one of the provers and an associate of the Allentown Academy) who took it from the tongue of a newly born filly.
The provings are by Hering, Helfrich, Floto, Reichhelm, Husman and Neidhard. See Allen's Encyclopædia, vol. 4, p. 589 .
As the remedy has not, thus far, had frequent clinical application, we give but a condensed extract from the provings.
