General

The skin symptoms correspond to those of poisoning by Rhus, for which it has been found an efficient antidote. Nervousness in children; from teething and intestinal troubles. Debility after gout. Hydrocephaloid symptoms, result of long, exhausting diarrhœa. Sleeplessness. Cerebral hyperasthesia in young children often the result of overstimulation of brain.

Head

Child cries out at night; is wakeful and begins to laugh and play. Headaches of elderly people and during climacteric.

Dose

Tincture, to sixth attenuation. For Poison Oak, 5 drops of tincture per dose, also locally.

Characteristics

Cypr . has great repute as a "nervine" among eclectics, and in domestic practice. It ranks with Scutellaria and Valerian. A strong infusion causes exhilaration followed by calmness; and is much resorted to by women whose nerves are shattered by long illness, or excessive indulgence in green-tea or coffee (Hale). It is suited to nervous disorders from mental over-excitement, or reflex nervous excitement; to nervous weakness following influenza. It is indicated in the brain-hyperesthesia of children who wake in the night lively and full of play. Ecstasy, preliminary to incipient brain disorder. Epilepsy from reflex irritation. Jactitation and trembling; twitching of limbs.

Mind

Male Sexual Organs

Spermatorrhœa with great nervous prostration and dejection of spirits.

Female Sexual Organs

Amenorrhœa, with hysteria. ─ Great nervous debility and despondency. ─ Irritability of vagina; hysterical symptoms, sleeplessness and agitation.

Sleep

Sleeplessness: with desire to talk, a constant crowding of pleasant ideas; with restlessness of body; twitching of limbs; after miscarriage for several nights in succession. ─ Ecstasy; children awaken in night from sleep, "wide-awake," unnaturally playful, with no desire to go to sleep again (often a preliminary to some brain affection).

Lady's Slipper. Orchidaceæ.
The yellow lady's slipper, Cypripedium pubescens, grows wild in abundance in woods that are moist throughout the United States. The tincture is prepared from the fresh root gathered in Autumn. It has been used by the Old School as a substitute for Valerian.

Dragging of left foot, following vertigo. *

Nerves

Sleepless from nervous exhaustion, especially where system has been debilitated by long sickness, especially from uterine complaints.
Nervous debility, with sleeplessness of nervo-bilious temperaments.
Jactitation and trembling in typhoid fevers.
Hysterical complaints.
Chorea and reflex epilepsy.
Convulsions of children, premonitory stage, when there is morbid irritability of brain, in consequence of which child is very excitable, laughs and plays at unwonted hours ; is very wakeful, and laughs even in sleep.
Epilepsy from reflex nervous irritation, from exhaustion of nerve forces, from irritability of brain in children.

Sleep

Sleeplessness : with desire to talk, or with constant crowding of pleasant ideas ; with restlessness of body ; twitching of limbs ; after miscarriage, for several nights in succession.

Tissues

Disorders of gray nerve matter from mental overexertion, or reflex nervous excitement.
Incipient cerebral disorder, when child is sleepless, laughs and plays in night.
Functional irritation of brain, especially in very young children from teething, or intestinal irritation.
