General

Cancer where pain and fetor are present. Best when skin is intact. Its use in hæmorrhages has abundant clinical verification. Nosebleed. Hæmorrhages from bowels, hæmoptysis, etc. A strain in loins or false step brings on a profuse flow of bright blood. Post-partum hæmorrhage. Flatulency and diarrhœa. Feeble patients with languid circulation.

Female

Bearing-down sensation. Menses early, profuse, prolonged, bright red. Sleepy. No desire for anything. Fingers seem swollen. Uterine hæmorrhages caused by overlifting, during puerperal state; menorrhagia.

Compare: Ipec; Sil; Trill.

Antidote: Acon.

Dose

Tincture to third potency. For cancer, strong decoction, one-half pint in a day. Oil of cinnamon in aqueous solution best local disinfectant. 3-4 drops in two quarts of water as a douche, wherever a germicide and disinfectant is needed. Three drops on sugar for hiccough.

Clinical

Ascites. Caries. Constipation. Diarrhœa. Hæmorrhages. Headache. Hysteria. Leucorrhœa. Menorrhagia. Metrorrhagia.

Characteristics

A leading feature of Cinnamon is hæmorrhage. The hæmorrhage is bright red and clear and < by any physical exertion. Cinnam . also causes gastric disturbance and hysterical attacks; pains in bones and in muscles, and great weakness as after loss of fluids. Hysterical attacks, going off with eructations; with nausea or vomiting. The symptoms are < while riding; from exertion; from talking; in afternoon and evening up to midnight. Talking = hysterical attacks. It has been used in large doses by the old school in cases of uterine cancer, and some success has been claimed for it.

It is antidoted by: Acon. It antidotes: Opium. Compare: Sil., Ipec.

Stomach

Nausea while riding, with gagging and vomiting of mucus.

Stool and Anus

Diarrhœa < after drinking, with acidity. ─ Long-continued constipation; stool in hard balls. ─ Hæmorrhage from bowels occurring esp. after any physical exertion; blood, bright red and clear.

Female Sexual Organs

Menorrhagia; in females troubled with itching at nose; blood bright red < after false step or strain; blood bright red. ─ Metrorrhagia. ─ Repeated small hæmorrhages during gestation and puerperal state; < on any exertion, lifting, straining, over-stretching arms; false step.

The symptoms marked '*' are from the Cinnamomum Cassia (from Eastern Asia), the variety in general use as a spice in this country.
The genuine Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (from Ceylon) was very rarely found in the apothecary shops of Philadelphia.

Palate and throat

Appetite, thirst. desires, aversions

Canine hunger, with nausea and debility when passing the meal hour. *
Want of appetite, with diarrhœa and acidity of stomach.

Hiccough, belching, nausea and vomiting

Belching, with colic.
Each attack subsides with a dozen eructations, soon, however, returning. θ Hysteria.
Nausea while riding, with gagging and vomiting of mucus. *
Nausea with weakness and vomiting of mucus, 2 to 3 P. M. *
Nausea and retching every day at same hour for four days. *
Chronic vomiting.

Scrobiculum and stomach

Hypochondria

(OBS :) Obstructions or induration of liver.

Much flatulence, with colic and pain in uterus.
Metastasis of gout to stomach and intestines.

Stools and rectum

Diarrhœa : always < after drinking ; with acidity of stomach ; long-continued constipation with fever and urging to stool.
Stool first of hard balls, then soft and easily evacuated. *
Hemorrhage from bowels, occurring especially after any physical exertion, even running across the room ; blood bright red and clear ; child, æt. 3 ; t.

Urinary organs

Retention of urine.

Male sexual organs

Excessive irritability of sexual organs ; causes erections.
Impotence ; sensation of weakness in legs.

Female sexual organs

Uterine pains.
Menses regular every four weeks, each period, however, lasting eight days longer than usual, and followed by leucorrhœa.
Menses too early and too profuse, particularly in females troubled with itching of nose and nightly restlessness, profuse flow of red blood.
Irregular menstruation.
Menorrhagia depending upon chlorosis or anemia.
After a false step or a strain in loins, profuse flow of bright red blood.
Chronic metrorrhagia.
Chronic leucorrhœa.

Pregnancy. parturition. lactation

Vomiting of pregnancy.
Hemorrhage during or after gestation from lifting, straining, overstretching the arms, or taking a false step.
Hemorrhage during pregnancy, threatening abortion.
Weak, ineffectual or false labor pains, spasms, twitchings, or syncope during labor.
Complete cessation of labor pains.
Mitigates the severity of labor.
Severe metrorrhagia in primipara after the first few pains, when the os had dilated about an inch ; placenta descended with the head.
Repeated small hemorrhages during puerperal state.
Metrorrhagia some days after delivery, unaccompanied by plethora.
Three hours after birth convulsions followed the tearing of the cord ; after subsidence of the spasms, violent hemorrhage.
To lessen severity of after pains.

Voice and larynx. trachea and bronchia

Hoarseness with cough.
(OBS :) It clears the voice when muffled by secretions, scatters the phlegm, and is useful for tickling in larynx.

Respiration

Oppressed breathing, with vertigo and weakness.

Inner chest and lungs

Pain in shoulders and side. θ Rheumatic catarrh.
Pain in chest.
Anxiety and oppression in precordial region, causing constriction of chest. θ Hysteria.

Heart, pulse and circulation

Great cardiac anxiety with attacks. θ Hysteria.
(OBS :) Heart affections ; strengthens heart.
Loss of pulse during attack. θ Hysteria.

Neck and back

Pains in small of back, with ptyalism.

Lower limbs

Sensation of weakness in feet. θ Impotence.
Pain in muscles (myalgia).
Erysipelas with ruptured vesicles on right leg.

Rest. position. motion

Hemorrhage from bowels after any physical exertion ; even running across room.
After a false step or a strain in loins, profuse flow of bright red blood.
Hemorrhage during or after gestation from lifting, straining, overstretching arms, or taking a false step.

Nerves

Nervous weakness without fever ; syncope, hysterical attacks after loss of fluids.
