Arsenite of Quinine

General

The symptoms of general weariness and prostration produced by the drug have been utilized in prescribing it homeopathically as a general tonic, often with very marked beneficial and prompt effect. In diphtheria with great prostration, cases that are prolonged, especially, and in malarial affections, neuralgia, etc, it has been found curative. Asthmatic attacks which recur periodically, with great prostration. Icy skin. Pressure in the solar plexus, with tender spine back of it.

Head

Tired feeling. Head feels too full. Throbbing. Great anxiety. Great irritability. Vertigo; worse looking up. Dull, heavy headache, frontal and occipital. Darting pains running up into head.

Eyes

Intense photophobia and orbicular spasm; gushing hot tears. Flickering with pain and lachrymation.

Mouth

Tongue thickly furred; yellow, slimy coating. Bitter taste. No appetite.

Stomach

Alternation of hyperacidity and decrease of acid. Hyperchlorhydria (Robinia; Arg nit; Orexine tannate). Thirst for water, yet it disturbs. Anorexia. Eggs produce diarrhœa.

Heart

Palpitation. Sensation as if heart stopped. Suffocative attacks, occurring in periodical paroxysms. Must have open air. Short of breath on ascending; cardiac dyspnœa; circulatory weakness after acute infections; early myocardial degeneration.

Sleep

Sleeplessness due to nervous causes (Single dose of 5th or 6th potency).

Extremities

Weak limbs. Coldness of hands and feet, knees and limbs. Tearing pains.

Fever

Continuous, with weakness. System depleted.

Compare: Chininum; also Ferrum Citricum (in nephritis with great anæmia; acid dyspepsia in chlorosis. Morbus maculosus Werlhoffii); Chinin mur (in severe neuralgic pains around eyes, with chills; exaggerated sensitiveness to alcohol and tobacco; prostration and restlessness). Characteristics

The Arsenite of Quinine combines many of the properties of its two components, but having been proved it can be treated as a separate individuality. The periodicity is intensified, and this is especially noted in the neuralgias. An irritable mood precedes the headache, which is < by mental and bodily exercise. The gastralgia of Chi. ars . is pressure in solar plexus with tender spine just at back of it. Nausea and vomiting are followed by sleep. Bonino ( H. R ., iv 210), who gave it a prolonged proving, found the symptoms < at rest; in the morning; and when the stomach was empty. They were > by motion (vertigo); and by eating (gastralgia). The chief effects were manifested on the stomach, solar plexus, ligaments and skin. According to him it corresponds to tobacco intoxication and its effects; indigestion from unripe fruits; gastralgia from coarse food or ill-baked bread; chronic rheumatism of joints without swelling; tertiary syphilis of periosteum; colic from incarcerated flatus; intermittent fever with predominating chills, little thirst and continuous almost convulsive yawning; effects of severe and depressing influences on the mind; to convalescence from long-lasting sickness. The circulation was slow, and limbs relaxed. Weakness, prostration, and disinclination for mental exertion were marked in several provers.

Causation

Tobacco.

Mind

Dislike of mental occupation in spite of clear-headed lightness about head and feeling of exhilaration. ─ Memory impaired. ─ Anxiety. ─ Child sits up in bed lamenting. ─ Irritable mood precedes headache.

Head

Sudden attacks of vertigo, < by looking up. ─ Severe darting, tortuous pains, running up into head and preventing sleep. ─ Head full as if it would burst. ─ On sitting down, head seems to be covered with an iron cap. ─ Hemicrania (l.) from fright; flickering before l. eye and lachrymation, ringing in ears, pain tearing, boring. ─ Penetrating pain in region of l. temple. ─ Dull, heavy headache, frontal and occipital; in cerebellum, < from slightest motion.

Eyes

Intense photophobia and orbicular spasm gushing hot tears, ulcers attacking each eye, < from midnight to 3 a.m. (Keratitis.). ─ Flickering before l. eye, with pain and lachrymation. (Hemicrania.)

Ears

Ringing in ears like bells; with congestion towards head. ─ Noise in ears and dulness of hearing.

Nose

Profuse coryza > erect position and out of doors. ─ Post-nasal catarrh < l. side. ─ Copious epistaxis.

Face

Trembling of facial muscles, esp. orbicularis palpebrarum (immediately). ─ Dull pain in l. temporal region at articulation of lower jaw. ─ Face pale, sallow, bloated.

Mouth

Tongue thickly furred; appetite bad. ─ Yellow, slimy coating on tongue, with bitter taste. ─ Fetid breath. ─ Dryness in roof of mouth, gnawing and nausea. ─ Metallic bitter taste, without changing taste of victuals.

Throat

Throat feels sore and raw, < coughing and sneezing. ─ Diphtheria.

Stomach

Appetite gone. ─ Violent thirst for cold water. ─ Desire for sweets. ─ Empty sensation. ─ Hiccough and belching; followed by urging to stool. ─ Sudden, indescribable general nausea, with flying heat and waning strength, esp. of lower limbs. ─ Nausea and vomiting followed by sleep. ─ Eggs or fish cause painless diarrhœa at once. ─ Gnawing and nausea as before vomiting as at beginning of tobacco-poisoning. ─ Pain in stomach as if it had contracted itself round an uneven stone. ─ Disturbed in night by severe pain in stomach as if it were pressed against spinal column; > by eating, for a few moments; repeated several mornings. ─ Contracting gastralgia, as if pushed up; > only for a moment by tasteless eructation.

Abdomen

Pain in epigastrium as from foul stomach. ─ Pain as from flatus wedged into flexure of colon. ─ Aching around navel and in ilium. ─ In evening severe colicky pains > by pressure.

Stool and Anus

Violent urging to stool, evacuated in prolonged rush till bowel empty; stool thin, brown, painless. ─ Diarrhœa, morning, hardly had time to dress, brown, liquid with jelly-like lumps: pain in l. iliac region, quite severe when walking. ─ Towards morning, frequent, bad-smelling flatus. ─ Stool pappy; watery, fetid. ─ Stool, fecal, with mucus and blood, preceded and followed by tenesmus. ─ Stool hard, voided with difficulty; aided by pressing finger on coccyx. ─ Could eat no breakfast, but took some dinner, and immediately thereafter great urging to stool, which was watery and blackish; some pain in hypogastrium.

Urinary Organs

Urine scanty; frequent urging. ─ Urine increased, urging tiresome.

Male Sexual Organs

A peculiar burning ache about sphincter vesicæ and throughout urethra.

Respiratory Organs

Breathing unsatisfactory, wants more air than he can take into his lungs. ─ Respiration very free, as if thorax were hollow. ─ Suffocative attacks beginning in morning and lasting till noon; > sitting bent forward at open window, < every other position. ─ Senile subacute bronchial catarrh with periodical fever, generally < at night.

Chest

Severe stitching pain, in chest; later in precordia; < on inspiration. ─ Asthmatic breathing on ascending. ─ Tightening sensation in mediastinum, in front at l. of breast-bone. ─ Peculiar pain, dull with pressure, as if caused by flatulence, base of l. chest, coming and going rapidly and frequently repeated.

Heart

Angina pectoris. ─ Palpitation on leaning against back. ─ Sensation as if heart had stopped. ─ Heart began to tremble, with a rumbling noise; I was unable to distinguish the pulsations (lasted one hour). ─ Slow pulse. ─ L. intercostal neuralgia as if torn with hot tongs.

Back

Pain in muscles between l. shoulder and neck, as if sprained, on rising from sleep, 4 p.m. ─ Back feels weak as after a long journey. ─ Pressure in solar plexus (usually only felt after eating tough meat or hard nuts, of which I had not partaken) extended toward the back, when it changed to a pinching sensation; spine painfully sensitive to touch at this point.

Upper Limbs

Pain in l. wrist, stiffness of l. arm. ─ Pain of fatigue in r. wrist. ─ Burning pain as in periosteum of l. elbow. ─ Annoying feeling of fatigue in r. shoulder, as if humerus were torn out of its socket. ─ Sore, tired aching in joints, bones and muscles: in l. biceps for some hours.

Lower Limbs

Dull pain in r. temporal region, at articulation of jaw and r. hip. ─ Pain in r. astragalo-tarsal joint as if bones drawn in opposite directions; > walking. ─ Pressure on tuberosity of tibia, which is somewhat swollen. ─ Pain in r. knee as from a fall. ─ Cramp in calf. ─ Pains back of r. thigh and in calf. ─ Numbness of legs after hardly having lain down. ─ Weakness of lower limbs.

Generalities

In different parts of body burning fluttering beats, as from electricity. ─ Stiffness of all bones, even while walking. ─ Burning pains deep in joints. ─ Burning pains as in periosteum. ─ Nervous restlessness, unable to remain in the house. ─ While walking, dizziness and collapse. ─ Desire to lie down. ─ Complete relaxation of muscles as from tobacco-poisoning.

Skin

Goose flesh, esp. of lower extremities. ─ Periodical furuncles, which relieve the head. ─ Burning, erysipelatous redness and violent itching < by warmth > by cold.

Sleep

Night full of visions; heavy sleep till morning. ─ Nervous restlessness, anxious dreams. ─ Sleep frequently interrupted.

Fever

General chill and cold. ─ After the feverish cough in the chill, no reaction of warmth. ─ Flying heat with nausea. ─ Cold, clammy sweat.

Inner head

Severe, darting, tortuous pains running up into head and preventing sleep.
Without previous aura he feels it rushing like lightning through brain and down right side of neck into arm, which is distorted and wrenched so as to crack audibly ; the facial muscles are convulsively drawn, sight and speech cease, consciousness leaves, and he falls to the
ground ; the attack is followed by cold sweat, loud eructations and a feeling of utter prostration. θ Epileptiform spasms.
Confused headache [No. 1].
Frontal and occipital headache [No. 1].
Headache affecting occipital protuberance [No. 1].
Dull headache in frontal region, not relieved by eating [No. 3].
Neuralgic pain in right temple and above eye, lasting several days, with inclination to move skin over aching place with his hand [No. 5].
Tearing, boring pain in left side of head, affecting eye, with flickering, pain and lachrymation ; ringing in ears, nausea and vomiting during attack, which regularly appears at midnight ; is subject to furuncles and abscesses which relieve head.

Outer head

Burning pain in left occipital protuberance, extending down nape of neck, along shoulder blade and over left half of thorax, producing orthopnea ; attack commences with stretching and yawning and a shaking chill, generally in morning, and lasts until
after midnight.
Bruised feeling all over head after fever and sleep [No. 2].
Neuralgic pain about head, particularly in temples ; < in l. side ; > by rubbing aching spots [No. 4].
Slight painful pressure in forehead and temples [No. 6].
Slight sudden throbbing of temporal arteries after 1 P. M.

Sight and eyes

Intense photophobia and spasms of orbicularis muscles, gushing hot tears, large ulcers attacking each eye, aggravation from midnight until 3 A. M., during which time the child sat up in bed lamenting. θ Keratitis.

Hearing and ears

Smell and nose

Watery discharge from nose [No. 2].

Nostrils stop up, particularly left, on lying down, preventing breathing through nose [No. 2].

Inner mouth

Burning canker spot inside of left upper lip [No. 4].

Palate and throat

Post-nasal catarrh ; < on left side [No. 2].
Diphtheria, diffused blackish exudation, hoarseness, great prostration, confusion in head, nightly delirium, difficult swallowing, fetid stench from mouth, dry tongue, dry skin, pulse 130, fever assuming a putrid type [No. 3].
Constant hacking and clearing of throat [No. 2].
Throat feels sore and inflamed, with a good deal of cough [No. 2].
Throat feels raw and sore ; < by coughing and sneezing [No. 2].
Malignant angina during scarlatina, with paleness of skin, quick exhaustion and rapid destruction of mucous membrane of fauces.
Diphtheria : fetor oris, swelling of submaxillary glands, frequently also of parotids, violent fever and great prostration.

Appetite, thirst. desires, aversions

Eating and drinking

Hypochondria

Abdomen and loins

Sore pain in a small spot, which could be covered with tip of a finger below and to right of umbilicus, coming and going, but continuing all day [No. 1].
Very severe colic [No. 6].
Pressure in solar plexus, as if he had eaten tough meat or hard nuts, extending towards back where it changes to a pinching sensation, spine painfully sensitive to touch at this point [No. 6].

Stools and rectum

Diarrhœa from malarious poisoning ; stools thin, watery, undigested, offensive, dark or light brown, sometimes with a meal-like sediment.
From ten to fifteen painless, watery, very offensive stools from 6 to 10 A. M., with burning in anus after each passage ; slightly emaciated, pale and weak.
Fetid diarrhœa with pains in bowels. θ Intermittent fever.

Urinary organs

Spasmodic retention of urine ; > by application of hot cloths to chest, which, however, is followed by syncope. θ Occipito-intercostal neuralgia.

Voice and larynx. trachea and bronchia

Hoarseness. θ Diphtheria.
Aching in bronchial region ; < left side [No. 4].
Seemed to prevent diphtheritic membrane from spreading to larynx. θ Malignant scarlatina.

Respiration

Respiration very free as if thorax was hollow [No. 6].
Blueness of lips, hands and nails, with attacks of suffocation, which begin in morning and last until noon. θ Tuberculosis.
Must sit bent forward and if possible at an open window during attack of suffocation ; < by any other position.
Dyspnœa with anxiety. θ Tuberculosis.
Every forenoon at 9 o'clock attacks of suffocating spells.

Cough

Coughing < sore throat [No. 2].
Cough with but little expectoration [No. 2].
Slight cough at long intervals, seems to come from full feeling in chest [No. 2].

Inner chest and lungs

Senile subacute catarrh with periodical fever, generally < at night.
Peculiar colicky pain in lower part of left lung felt like a pain from flatulence, comes and quickly passes away, often repeated [No. 1].
Sharp stitch in lower part of right chest in front ; < when inspiring, causing him to cry out [No. 1].
Desire to inflate lungs to their fullest extent to relieve uncomfortable feeling in stomach while riding in open air on a raw, cold day [No. 4].
The chest feels hollow and respiration freer [No. 4].
Limbs icy cold ; cold clammy sweat all over ; greatest anxiety and unquenchable thirst ; must sit up, bent forward if possible, at open window. θ Tuberculosis.

Heart, pulse and circulation

Angina pectoris, with dropsical symptoms, venous hyperemia and cyanosis.
Trembling of heart, with rumbling noise, unable to distinguish pulsations, lasting one hour [No. 6].
Palpitation ; noticed on leaning against back [No. 6].
Sensation as if heart had stopped [No. 6].
No perception of beating of heart [No. 6].
Beat of heart and pulse irregular, numbering 200 per minute [No. 6].
Pulse cannot be felt on left side [No. 6].
Beat of heart becomes regular towards noon [No. 6].
Pulse in radial and temporal arteries 200 [No. 6].

Outer chest

Neck and back

Back feels weak as after taking a long journey [No. 2].
Pain in muscles between left shoulder and neck, as if sprained, on rising from sleep at 4 P. M. [No. 4].

Upper limbs

Painful weariness in shoulder and elbow joints [No. 6].
Aching in biceps of left arm [No. 1].
Acute fugitive pain in left olecranon process [No. 1].
Pain in flexors of left forearm on radial side near elbow [No. 1].
Palms of hands hot and dry [No. 1].
Sore, aching fugitive pains in first phalanx of left thumb, the same, but in a less degree, in right [No. 1].
Blueness of hands and nails. θ Tuberculosis.

Lower limbs

Weariness of lower extremities.
Gooseflesh on lower extremities, with chilly feeling [No. 2].
Sore, aching fugitive pain in left leg near knee [No. 1].
Aching, sore pain in anterior lower two-thirds of left tibia [No. 1].
Itching on internal malleolus of right foot at 2 A. M. ; on investigation discovered eruption of bright red pimples [No. 4].
Increased tenderness of corn on left little toe ; had to remove shoe to ease pain [No. 4].

Limbs in general

Rest. position. motion

Desire to sit or lie in one place.
Desire to move skin over aching place in temple with his hand.
Lying : on left side, nostril fills up.

Leaning against back : palpitation noticeable.

Expanding chest : > uncomfortable feeling in stomach.
Motion : and going up-stairs < burning soreness in stomach ; < intercostal neuralgia.
Bodily exercise : headache.

Nerves

Nightly : delirium in diphtheria.

Temperature and weather

Hot cloths to chest : > retention of urine but cause syncope.
Warmth of pillow : < restlessness.
Open window : sits there to > anxiety and suffocation.
On a raw, cold day, while riding, desire to expand lungs to relieve uncomfortable feeling in stomach.
Damp weather : is sensitive to it, and feels chilly. θ Rheumatic headache.
Cool part of bed : < chilliness.
Inclination to throw off covers and open windows : with fever towards midnight.

Fever

Chilly feeling like cold waves after 8 1/2 P. M. in bed, with gooseflesh all over body, but particularly on legs [No. 2].
Chilliness coming in waves, with restlessness ; < by moving hands and feet to a cool part of bed, also by thinking of it [No. 2].
Chill always in forenoon, not at a regular hour, however ; sometimes once every day, again every other day ; sometimes paroxysms would close with perspiration, sometimes without ; before the attack headache, yawning and stretching. θ Intermittent
fever.
After chilliness, feverish towards midnight, pulse 98, full and strong, with inclination to throw off covers and open windows, no sweat [No. 2].
Feverish all the time, but more so at night [No. 2].
No sweat after fever, but weak, broken-up feeling in morning and no appetite for breakfast [No. 2].

Sensations

Lecture

Complaints come on at night. Open air aggravates most complaints. General increasing anemia. Inflamed parts turn black. Chlorosis. Sensitive to cold, and complaints are worse from cold and from becoming cold. Tendency to take cold.

This is a useful remedy in weakly constitutions. Cold, pale, emaciated people. In prolonged suppuration; after haemorrhages.

Chronic diarrhea, when the weakness is the most prominent feature. Fullness of blood vessels. Dropsy in sacs, or edema. Emaciation. Cannot sustain a physical exertion. Faints on slight provocation.

Modalities

Wants to be warm; wants warm drinks and warm food. Warm room ameliorates. Wants to lie down. Aversion to motion. Stitching and tearing pains. Periodicity is most marked. Pulsation all over the body. Pulse fast, feeble and irregular. Relaxed and flabby ( Calc.).

Sensitive to pain. Many symptoms come during sleep. Standing increases many symptoms.

Sensitive to touch. Trembling. Walking in the open air aggravates. Weakness from walking. Complaints come on in windy, stormy weather.

Mind

Easily angered, and refuses to talk or to answer questions. Anxiety day and night, but worse in the evening, worse during chill; anxiety with fear. Anxiety during fever, even becomes wild.

Anxiety on waking. Desires things which he cares nothing for after he gets them. Becomes critical with his most intimate friends. Complaining. Confusion of mind in the morning on waking.

Over conscientious about trifles ( Silicea, Thuja). Delirious at night; after haemorrhage. Many imaginations, illusions of fancy; sees images, frightful images. Despair during chill, heat and suffering. Discontented with everything. Discouraged easily, and faint hearted.

Dulness of mind. Becomes excited over small matters. Exaltation of fancy. Fear at night that evil will come to him; fear of ghosts. Forgetful. Mind overwhelmed with ideas at night. Impatience in intermittent fever. Becomes indifferent to all enjoyment. Aversion to work.

Irritable during chill, and on waking. jumps out of bed during the fever. Moaning during the chill and the fever. Loathing of life. Weakness of memory. He is easily offended, and looks for insults.

Great restlessness at night, and during fever. Anxious restlessness, driving him out of bed; driving to despair. Extreme sadness, especially during chill and fever, and sometimes during the sweat. Oversensitiveness to noise, and in general.

Sentimental. Mental symptoms from sexual excesses, and loss of vital fluids. Refuses to talk, and remains silent. Sits by the hour in silence without moving. Wandering speech. Starting on falling asleep, and waking as from fright.

Lies in bed in a state of stupefaction in low forms of fever. Suicidal disposition. Suspicious. Persistent thoughts, Timid. Weary of life. Weeping.

The chilliness is brought on by thinking of it. The headache is worse by mental exertion.

Vertigo comes in the evening, with nausea; while walking in the open air.

Head

Cerebral congestion with great heat of the head. The forehead becomes cold and covered with sweat. Constriction of the head. Great beat in the forehead. Heaviness in the head in the morning. Motion is felt in the brain on moving the head.

Sensation of rushing in the brain, down right side of the neck and arm becoming convulsive, and ending in real convulsion. Violent darting pains in the head preventing sleep. Pain in the whole head.

Pain

in the morning on waking, in then afternoon, but most severe at night. Night headaches. Cold air brings on the head pains.

The scalp is sensitive to touch, to combing the hair, and to binding up the hair during the suffering. Catarrhal headache. Pain very severe during the chill and heat, but ameliorated as the sweat becomes free. Pains worse or brought on from becoming cold.

With coryza the pain is violent; worse coughing or jarring, after eating. Hammering headaches. Headaches during menses.

Mental exertion aggravates the headache. Nervous headache, and headache from excitement or noise. Paroxysmal pains. Periodical headaches; headache every two weeks.

Pulsating pains. Pains worse walking. Neuralgic pains, worse in left side, ameliorated by rubbing. Aching felt deep in the head. Pains in the forehead, mostly on the right side; in occiput after sleep; in sides of head in the evening; in temples and forehead in vertex.

Bruised pain all over the head after fever, and after sleep. Burning pain in left occipital region extending down the neck in the morning. Bursting pain. Pressing pain. Pressing in the forehead over the eyes. Pressing in the occiput and temples. Stitching and tearing pains in the head. Perspiration on the forehead. Complaints come on from uncovering the head in cold air.

Eyes

Inflamed eyes. Lachrymation. Intense photophobia and spasms of orbicularis muscles. Gushing hot tears. Large ulcers on each eye, worse from midnight until 3 A.M. Scrofulous opthalmia, worse after 1 A.M.

Flickering before the left eye. Pain in the eyes at night. Burning pains, Pressing. Sunken eyes. Dim vision. Sparks before the eyes. Weak vision.

Ears

Noises in the ears; buzzing, humming, ringing, roaring, singing. Stitching in the ears. Earache. Pain burning, stitching, tearing. Hearing acute. Hearing impaired.

Nose

Coryza with discharge. Dry coryza. Nasal catarrh with bloody discharge, or purulent discharge. Dryness in the nose.

Epistaxis. Nose obstructed. Sneezing. Excoriation of the corners of the nose. Especially useful for periodical coryza and frequent taking cold in the nose which keeps a catarrh in constant activity.

Face, mouth and tongue

Chlorotic face. Cracked lips., Bluish lips. Pale earthy face. Circumscribed red cheeks with pale face. Sickly color of face. jaundiced face. Expression anxious.

The pains of the face are worse in the open air; burning, tearing. Periodical pains. Swelling of submaxillary and parotid glands. Perspiration cold, Oedema of face, Ulceration of the lips.

Burning canker sores in the mouth. Bleeding from mucous membranes of the mouth. Cracked tongue, Tongue black, brown, white or yellow. Dry mouth and tongue.

Hot mouth. Burning rawness of the tongue. Sore tongue. Salivation. Swollen gums and tongue . Taste bad, bitter while eating; insipid, metallic, saltish, sour, sweetish.

Vesicles on the tongue.

Teeth

Pain in the teeth at night, < by biting the teeth together, from touch; cold drinks. Pains come on periodically, are jerking, pulsating, tearing, and date back to malarial fever.

Throat

Contraction in the throat. Dryness in the throat. Gangrenous inflammation of the throat with putrid odor, in malignant scarlet fever.

The throat feels hot. This remedy has been used in diphtheria when the exudation was blackish, and putrid odor from the mouth. Great pain on swallowing.

Burning in the throat. Stitching in the throat on swallowing. Difficult swallowing. Swollen throat. Constant clearing of the throat.

Stomach

Appetite diminished, or ravenous. No appetite for breakfast. Strong appetite without relish of food. Aversion to rich food and fats; aversion to food, to meat. Desires wine; cold drinks, sour things, sweet things.

Sensation of coldness in the stomach. Emptiness, better by eating. Eructations after eating, bitter, empty, of food, sour. Water brash. Sensation of fullness after eating. Heartburn. Great weight in the stomach after eating. Hiccough. Stomach easily disordered.

Cannot digest eggs or fish. Water tastes bitter. Nausea after eating, during headache. Pain in the stomach from coughing; after eating. Burning; cramping; pressing, soreness; s titching, tearing. Pulsating. Retching with cough. Strong thirst, in the evening, during perspiration; for small drinks during heat. Vomiting at night, on coughing, after drinking, after eating, with headache; of bile black, blood, food, mucus; sour; water.

Nausea and vomiting followed by sleep. Sudden inclination to vomit at 2 P.M. Sensation of coldness in the abdomen during chill. Distension morning, after eating, tympanitis, ascites; enlarged liver and spleen from malarial influences.

Abdomen

Flatulence in intermittent fever. Fullness in the abdomen. Hardness of the liver. Heaviness as from a load in the abdomen after eating. Great pain in the abdomen during chill, like colic; during diarrhoea; after eating; before stool; ameliorated by lying on the abdomen. Great pain in the region of the liver, in the hypogastrium, in the region of the umbilicus. The kinds of pain in the abdomen are burning, cramping, cutting, dragging; soreness stitching. Much rumbling and tension.

Constipation, with hard, knotty stools. Diarrhea, morning, afternoon, NIGHT, after midnight ; after cold drinks; from taking cold; AFTER EATING; after fruit; in hot weather. Dysentery. Much flatus, offensive. Bleeding from anus. Hemorrhoids. Involuntary stool and urine.

Itching of the anus. Moisture about the anus. Pain in the anus during stool. Burning in the anus during diarrhea, during stool. Pressing pain. Stitching. Paralytic weakness of the rectum. Ineffectual urging to stool.

Stool bilious, black, bloody, clay colored, copious, frequent, LIENTERIC, offensive, liquid, water. Diarrhea with intermittent fever.

Spasmodic retention of urine. Urging to urinate, frequent, ineffectual. Involuntary urination at night; after stool. Urine albuminous, bloody, burning; cloudy on standing; dark, greenish, pale, copious at night, offensive, scanty. Sediment is red and sandy. Sugar. Clear watery urine.

Erections feeble. Seminal emissions.

Itching of vulva. Leucorrhea, excoriating, bloody, copious, after menses, offensive, thin. Menses absent; copious, dark, too frequent, offensive, painful, pale, protracted; suppressed. Uterine haemorrhage. Prolapsus.

Catarrh of larynx and trachea. Rawness in larynx. Soreness in larynx. Hoarseness; rough voice.

Respiration quick, asthmatic, deep, difficult in evening and night; difficult with cough; difficult while lying; rattling; short. Suffocation. Wheezing. Whistling. Suffocation in the forenoon during phthisis. Must sit bent forward by an open window in the attack of suffocation, worse in any other position. Every day at 9 A.M. Suffocation.

Cough, morning, afternoon, evening, night; after midnight; asthmatic, from deep breathing; from full feeling in chest; during chill. Dry cough, at night, during fever. Cough exhausting. Cough during fever. Hacking cough. Irritation in larynx and trachea.

Loose cough. Motion aggravates the cough. Short cough. Spasmodic cough. Suffocative cough. Talking aggravates the cough. Tickling in air passages causes cough. Expectoration bloody, copious; difficult; mucus, offensive, purulent; tastes bitter, flat, salty. Expectoration is viscid, white.

Anxiety in chest, region of heart. Constriction. Hemorrhage of lungs. Oppression of chest. Angina pectoris with dropsical symptoms. Pain in the chest, during cough. Pains in the sides of the chest. Rawness in the chest. Stitching in the chest on coughing, Stitching in the heart. Palpitation of the heart, anxious, aggravated on slight exertion, leaning back against chair; violent . Sensation as if heart ceased to beat. Full pulse. Weakness in chest. Weakness of respiratory muscles. Violent pain in left mammary region, as though part were torn with red hot tongs. Aching in region of seventh rib on inspiration.

Coldness of the back at night. Eruptions on the back. Pain in the back, during chill. Pain in the cervical region, in scapula, between scapula, in lumbar region; in sacral region, in spine. Aching; brushed; drawing; soreness in spine; tearing. Stiffness in cervical region. Weak feeling in back.

Limbs

Limbs icy cold. Upper limbs cold. Cold hands and feet. Cold knees. Cold legs. Cramps in calves. Blueness of finger nails. Eruption on limbs. Excoriation between thighs. Heaviness of limbs, of lower limbs. After prolonged suppuration in hip joint disease. Stitching in limbs, in lower limbs.

Weakness of limbs, forearms, lower limbs, legs. Gooseflesh on lower limbs with chilliness. Palms hot and dry. Pain in limbs, rheumatic, in the joints; gouty joints. Pain in the upper limbs, shoulders. Pain in the knees. Aching pains in all the limbs.

Wandering aching pains. Aching of the biceps of left arm. Pain in flexors of left forearm, in radial side near elbow. Burning in the limbs, in the feet. Drawing pain in the limbs, upper limbs; thighs, knees, feet. Stitching in shoulders; upper arms, hips, thighs, knees, feet.

Tearing pain in the limbs; upper limbs, shoulders, elbows, wrist, hand, fingers; lower limbs, thighs, legs, ankles, feet. Restlessness of the limbs; lower limbs, legs, feet. Stiffness of the limbs, hands, fingers; lower limbs. Dropsical swelling of the hands and feet. Trembling of the limbs; hands; lower limbs. Weakness of the lower limbs. Weakness of the limbs, joints, upper limbs; lower limbs, knees, thighs.

Sleep

Sleep deep. Sleep during fever. Dreams anxious, of death, frightful misfortune, vexatious, vivid. Falling asleep late, restless until 3 A.M . Restless sleep. Sleepiness afternoon, evening. Sleeplessness, before midnight. Sleep is unrefreshing. Wakens too early, frequently. Yawns much.

Intermittent fever. CHILL, morning, forenoon, noon, AFTERNOON evening, night, midnight; open air; walking in the open air; anticipating; in bed. Drinking aggravates chill. Quotidian chill; quotidian or tertian. Hard, shaking chill. Chill like cold waves with gooseflesh all over body. Warm room ameliorates. External warmth ameliorates.

High fever follows chill. Fever without chill afternoon and evening. Fever and chill alternate. Burning fever. Feverish all the time, but more so at night. Dry heat at night. Hectic fever. Heat during sleep. Chill, heat, then sweat. During the beat be desires to uncover.

Perspiration, morning, night; during anxiety. COLD; from coughing; with weakness; during slight exertion; following fever; from motion; PROFUSE; during sleep; after waking; staining linen yellow. Fevers from living in damp rooms. Malarial fevers. Symptoms increase while perspiring. Fevers with extreme prostration.

Skin

Anaesthesia of the skin. Burning. Cold skin. Bluish discoloration; pale; yellow; jaundice every summer. Dryness. Burning eruptions, boils, pimples. Urticaria after scratching. Vesicles. Formication. Gooseflesh, itching, burning. Skin very sensitive, a feeling of soreness. Sticking. Dropsical swelling of skin. Ulcers, burning, sensitive, stinging.
