General

Partakes largely of the properties of the plant upon which the insect lives.

Head

Sad; aching, worse from motion. Brain seems swashed hither and thither. Coryza, with burning or biting in nostrils. Noise in ears, as of cannon. Yellow face. Orbital right neuralgia, with profuse lachrymation. Toothache, relieved by general warm sweat (Cham). Toothache extends to ear, temple, and cheek-bone (Plantago).

Stomach

No appetite for meat and bread. Vesicles at end of tongue. Much mucus. Colic with much rumbling and ineffectual urging to stool.

Stools

Hard and knotty. Diarrhœa in morning, with painful urging and burning in anus, and pressure in rectum and bladder.

Urine

Voluptuous feeling in glans. Burning in urethra. Urination frequent, copious, frothy.

Back

Severe pains in region of lower inner angle of left shoulder-blade, running into chest.

Fever

Shuddering all over; burning in palms; hot sweat in bed.

Relationship

Dose

Sixth to thirtieth potency.

Leaders

I have the 30th potency marked Chenopodium glauci, with which I cured one case of pain under the left shoulder-blade. This case was of several years, standing, the pain at times becoming very severe. I have also used it in other cases with benefit. I always think of this remedy where I find such pain and of Chelidonium where it is under the right shoulder-blade. According to Dr. Jacob Jeanes, Chenopodium anthelminticum cures a pain under the right shoulder-blade similar to that of Chelidonium. The pain in both seems to depend upon some hepatic derangement. Having succeeded with the Chelidonium so well, I have never used it. Chelidonium is well proven, and a full proving of the Chenopodium may enable us to distinguish between them. Between the two Chenopodiums and Chelidonium, we have an important trio for infra-scapular pains which ought to be better understood. Such single symptoms are, of course, small guides to follow, but are sometimes the only ones we have, and when, after full proving, the drug having them is developed, we often find that they were reliable though we could not at first give their pathological significance. I would, I think, as often follow such a guide, as speculations and theories. For instance, here are some such single symptoms which have often been verified. Inframammary pains at climacteric. Actæa racemosa. Pain drawing through from nipple to back when child nurses, Croton tiglium (Silicea). Pain in upper left chest through to scapula, Myrtus com., Pix liquida, Theridion and Sulphur. Pain though lower right chest, Chelidonium, Mercurius vivus and Kali carbonicum. Pain through upper right chest, Calcarea ostrearum and Arsenicum album.

Pain through lower left chest, Natrum sulphuricum. We might add many more such to this list, and they are very valuable.

Head

Dulness in the head, as if from coryza, with flush of heat in the face ; violent pressing in the forehead or the cerebellum, aggravated by motion, with sensation as if the brain were balancing to and fro ; drawing-tearing the scalp.

Eyes

Burning of the eyelids in the evening.

Ears

Tearing in the ears, now in one, then in the other.

Nose

Sensation of soreness of the nostrils. Violent sneezing, with soreness of the larynx. Coryza, with burning and biting on the margins of the nostrils, particularly of the septum. Fluent coryza, with secretion of thin mucus ; with accelerated pulse ; with coldness of the feet up to the knew, and a chill over the back.

Face

Pale or yellowish color of the face. Flushes of heat in the face, with dulness of the head (evening). Dryness of the lips, especially in the morning.

Mouth and Throat

Painful vesicle on the tip of the tongue. Dryness of the mouth and throat, sometimes with increased secretion of mucus. Much mucus in the mouth and throat, tasting flat, with continual disposition to hawk or spit. Secretion of frothy mucus from the mouth and throat. Scraping and burning in the throat.

Appetite and Taste

Increased thirst, from dryness in the throat.

Stomach

Frequent cutting pain in the abdomen, especially at night, or during the day, with urging to stool, emission of large quantities of flatulence. Frequent rumbling of flatulence in the bowels. Congestion of blood to the organs in the pelvis.

Stool and Anus

Ineffectual urging, with pressure on the bladder and rectum. Evacuations liquid, papescent, with burning in the anus and renewed urging, or with pinching in the abdomen before and after the stool.

Urinary Organs

Pressure on the bladder, especially with ineffectual desire to stool. Irritation in the urethra, as from acridity, compelling him to urinate frequently. During micturition, burning in the urethra, especially at the orifice. Frequent and copious emission of saturated, yellow, foaming urine, attended with an acrid sensation in the urethra, brownish red, depositing a thick, yellowish sediment during the night.

Larynx and Trachea

Frequent roughness and huskiness of the voice ; going of by hawking. Burning scraping in the larynx, as from acridity ; titillating burning or stinging, particularly in the open air during wet and cold weather, with constant irritation in the larynx, obliging him to cough or to hawk, with constant expectoration of mucus.

Back

Pain below the left shoulder-blade.

Extremities

Upper. Pain, as if bruised in the arms, with rheumatic pains in the shoulders and upper arms. Lower. Rheumatic pains, especially on the tibia and soles of the feet. Sensation of weariness in the legs. Tearing-drawing above the knee, especially in the morning. Cold feet up to the knees. Stinging burning in the corns.

Generalities

The limbs feel bruised. Rheumatic drawing pains in temples, ears, decayed teeth, shoulders, upper arms, soles of the feet, above the knees, and on the tibia.

Fever

Pulse accelerated, especially in the evening. Chills, especially over the back. Burning in the palms of the hands. Perspiration in the palms of the hands, especially in the forenoon.
